And yet I’m a hardcore gamer and immensely enjoy my Scorpio and launch Xbone. I just don’t play many MS games on them. Just like my PS4 is also a third party software machine :)

There is something for everyone when you look at the offerings of all consoles combined.  And my statement was a general one.  But it's very obvious that both Nintendo and Sony are catering to the gamer more than Microsoft is by focusing more on games than business agenda.

It seems  I need to know what is the "hardcore gamer" too .

Hardcore gamer and casual gamer are essentially meaningless terms, as a way to create distinctions between gamers when there is not really a need to.

Don't know about why you need to know that, but I did update my last post for clarification.  Oh, you were referring to Ludicrous.  He's just self-labeling.

niche = I don't like

not niche = it sells good on my platform of choice

I want to hear the answer from xbox people .

So what's the difference  between niche games and not niche games ?

It depends on sales ? or nationality ?

Not sure you'll get a sincere answer... I guess FM is super niche and USA since FM7 didn't even got 300k WW (and not a single region with 100k)

So their isn't a distinction between a person who buys 1 game per month vs. a person who buys 2 a year? A person who plays games daily vs. someone who plays once a week?

There shouldn't be, that seems to just be a way to get the people that consider themselves hardcore gamers to consume, consume, consume!

That's not really answering my question. Why shouldnt their be? Their is a big difference between someone who is spending hundreds if not thousands of hours/money on games than someone who isn't. How can their not be a difference?

Why does there need to be a distinction though? We are all into gaming, it's an arbitrarily defined separation between the two. What is the exact point that makes you go from a casual to hardcore gamer?

Classifying helps you understand a market better. So you can better tailor your product.

Aren't these definitions given by the consumers themselves though?
