Forums - Nintendo Discussion - GameStop CEO: Unannounced Titles Will Help Switch To "Very, Very Strong" 2018

What unannounced projects you think Mauler could be referring to? Maybe some unannounced exclusive games like Animal Crossing and Third-Party Games like GTA V, Fallout, Spyro, etc.

Article:

The Switch's first year on sale has been incredible, thanks a flood of amazing games like Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey.

Even the most optimistic Nintendo fan will admit that 2018 is, by comparison, looking somewhat bare, but GameStop CEO Mike K. Mauler nevertheless thinks it's going to go down as a strong 12 months.

Speaking during the company's earnings call, Mauler said:

We know what happened with the Wii U. I'd say this is definitely a whole different platform that we saw in the past. We have visibility to the software... So, last year was a tremendous year for their software as well as hardware, between Zelda and Mario Odyssey and all the games that they had, it really drove a lot of hardware sales as well as software. I think, this year, when we look at the slate of titles -- many of which haven't been announced yet -- this year looks also very, very strong. So, I think, at least for 2018, we'll continue to see the strong software slate drive additional install based on the hardware and increase attach rate. We don't have, really, visibility for '19 yet, but for '18, it should play out that way.

I think that essentially anyone could say that, it doesn't take insider knowledge to predict that there are still big titles for 2018 that haven't been announced yet.

so it's Animal Crossing

I think the general consensus is that they will release a big game alongside their online-service. I assumed that would be Smash Bros, but with the rumors that a new Animal Crossing is coming sooner than later i wonder if that will be the game. So Animal Crossing in September which makes Smash their likely November-game.

Well we still dont know almost nothing about Switch second half of 2018. lineup, I expecting Pokemon or Animal Crossing definatly, plus maybe GTAV or some other big 3rd party game/s.

A real animal crossing game would be amazing. But I'm guessing they will make me wait for that until next March. It will end up being a new Fire Emblem (which is great) and Mario Party.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

Considering Smash has been announced, it's either AC or Pokemon.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Why do I get the feeling it'll just be one of your typical Nintendo games that comes out every gen.

Because those are the exact titles that make Nintendo systems' sales "very, very strong".

Fire Emblem
Animal Crossing
Smash

Those are three pretty heavy hitters right there. But there is still one more (albiet unlikely) 2018 potential release that would just be straight up overkill...

Pokemon...

Then next year we get...

Metroid Prime 4
Bayo 3 (this might be 2018 actually)
Potentially a new Zelda using the BotW engine (think Majora's Mask two years after OoT...though 2020 is more realistic)
Mario Kart 9

And at this point we would also have too many JRPGs to count as DQXI should be out in 2019 and Japanese devs would have caught up by now. E3 is foing to be interesting for Nintendo fans over the next few years, take that to the bank.
