It's possible. There's a chance PS4 games aren't interested in playing a game they already played before. On the flip side, this is the first hyper-mature game on Nintendo in a while.

Actually, the quote said that 40% of people that bought the Switch version already owned the PS4 version, not that 40% of sales were the PS4 version, so I don't know which one actually sold more.

oh, i see. well, we’ll see how the game sells on each console regardless. i do have a feeling dark souls is the kind of game a lot of core nintendo fans could have missed and might enjoy, but seeing as dark souls iii on ps4 was the best selling souls game so far, the switch version will be hard pressed to compete with the large sony fanbase.

It's selling faster. It will likely sell more in the end, but currently hasn't.
