Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Disgaea 5 Switch has outsold the PS4 version and some interesting tidbits about SNK Heroines marketing

So just curious, but since the article never actually states that the Switch version outsold the PS4 version, why has the thread title not changed? There was a point last week where there was an official video showing a September release date for Spyro Reignited and the moderator STILL changed the thread's title to include "Rumor:" because it 'wasn't officially announced yet'. Here we have a case where blatantly false information is in the thread's title and it has stayed the same for a full day. What's the difference?

It's interesting that Nintendo is courting these smaller Japanese developers like NIS and SNK. It really seems like Nintendo is trying to shut Sony out of Japan completely, especially when it comes to game developers.

I mean Nintendo already rules Japan in terms of sales, but Japan is more important on the development side than it is on the consumer side. Japan is a small chunk of the consumer gaming market, but a huge ton of games come from Japan. Nintendo is gaining all of these smaller Japanese companies as allies so that it can have tons of exclusives in the coming years. These exclusives will mostly be smaller games, but the sheer number of smaller games will really add up.

If we're going to argue what we think he meant, stick to that.

But if we're going to argue what he said verbatim, then stick with that.

?

You can't say "He never said that, but here's my interpretation:"

...I don't think I ever said that he never said something.

You're suggesting the intention behind his wording concerning "competition" is that games on PS4 are more expensive, are you not?

No. Was there a post of mine that gave that impression?..

I ask because as I look throughout my posts, I suspect some of my posts might benefit from some clarification...

I had my doubts ^^

It will be my answer to the OP interview anyway!

Well, sorry I made you write so much : D All I can offer when it comes to topical discussion is this ...

I think it will be very interesting to see if the Switch gets enough third party support to cancel out indie game importance. I think more than likely the Switch version of indie games will continue to sell better than the PS4 versions, but I don't know if it will be the mini-phenomenon it is now. I obviously don't think NIS means anything personal with what they said, they're just a business and their nicher titles will probably sell better on a system with less third party support than on a system with more competition. That's just bound to happen. Makes me wonder if games like Etrian Odyssey will come to PS4 or not.

If ps4 have touch screen to draw map and mark icon every step, of course

a ) I already said earlier that I meant games of that caliber, and not that franchise specifically. b ) the Switch can't do that either, unless of course you think the game should only be available in handheld mode with a really odd control scheme ...

Look like they will have to drop drawing-map feature on second screen if they want continue the serie, or use some trick on a single touch screen of Switch

Would it be a sin to admit that I don't play Etrian Odyssey for the map creation feature? Lol

Not sin to me, but many Etrian Odyssey fans love it because the unique drawing-map feature. Drop it completely will make it become a common game like any DRPG out there which all have sale way below EO series

“For Disgaea 5, Switch sold very well. It sold just under 200k units in the west. Maybe 40 percent of these people already have the PS4 version. Why do they buy the same game again? Because it’s the function of a handheld that the Switch has. And Sony decided to withdraw from the PS Vita market. The memory size limitation of the Vita is just one gigabyte, right? But Disgaea is 8 GB. So Disgaea fans want to play on a handheld, but there is no handheld Disgaea 5 on a Sony format. So this is a perfect platform. We can play at home and we can play outside using the handheld function of the Switch. That is why the Nintendo Switch platform is growing naturally.”

I totally get why they wouldn't mention it, but Disgaea 3 and 4 on Vita had some pretty annoying lags in the item world. I mean I own a vita and not yet a Switch and I was happy they moved to Switch for that reason alone.

Also glad to see D5 selling well. A lot of fans had doubts about the future of the series before its release, but the game features, ergonomics and overall playability are way over the rest of the franchise, and it deserves this success.
