Forums - Sony Discussion - Games getting announced too early by Sony?

Companies do it as a way of making a lack luster lineup look full. Announcing a huge game makes people associate that game with your platform WHEN IT IS ANNOUNCED. That hype sells consoles alone. It's all marketing.

That's right! Hideo Kojima singing karaoke!

and there are a cpl others that had the same problem

It is a problem, that Sony has to cater a whole (physical) platform, therefore has to advertise it? It is a problem that they are heavily invested in new and big IPs, the kind of games that need very good marketing in this very overcrowded market?

Nah, i'd say, you are the problem.

Hunting Season is done...

like sony exclusives, would like to play games that get announced sooner rather than later.
I think both Microsoft and Sony have done some pretty bad/too early announcements.
Looks like Microsoft has taken a turn for the better and I hope Sony follows.

Its great if a game gets announced and you can play it the same year.

I'm ok with Sony times, it's Square that really bothers me

I think you mean its heresy to talk shit about Sony AND Nintendo. Microsoft is the only acceptable punching bag atm.

I do agree that they are announcing stuff way too early. I can understand that game development time has increased a lot but things like FF7 remake being announced in 2015 and then having next to nothing for the next 3 years is fairly frustrating for the fans. A game should only be showing a maximum of 2 times in an e3. With the PSX every december, i think its a lot more viable to announce titles at e3 and show development progress during PSX.

I suppose we have made it so E3 needs to drop bombshells every time or its deemed a failure. Maybe if we pull back our expectations, companies won't feel as obligated to give us bombshells that are years away from being finalized just for the sake of "winning" these type of shows. More accurately though, I think they do it just to sell people on the prospect of that game coming to that specific console, eventually. The sooner a company can get that sale, even if the person never gets the game, the better.
