Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Zelda BOTW achieves another milestone.

How many units can BOTW Switch sell in the USA

3.5m 1 6.25%

4m 1 6.25%

4.5m 3 18.75%

5m 3 18.75%

5.5m 0 0%

6m or more 8 50.00%

Total:16

Breath of the wild on Switch has joined Ocarina of time, Twilight princess and Legend of zelda as the only zelda games to achieve 3 million sales in the USA on a single platform release (not including versions on other systems). Looking at vgchartz data base the record is around 3.4 million which is held by Ocarina of time so i think it will be beaten and beaten this year quite easily. So congratulations To the Americans out there who have supported this game and made The USA the number one Zelda territory.

And it's only going up from here. BotW as a launch title was a genius move.

Well also, I don't really see what is so genius about it. It payed off extoardinarily well but it was kind of expected and releasing it as a launch title was a standard procedure.

I totally agree that it was a good idea to wait with the launch of BotW until the release date of the Switch. I just find it interesting how many complained that the game was postponed several times.

What's interesting about it? It's kind of expected a game that suffered delays like BOTW would generate a lot of annoyance, especially with the barren lineup of WiiU's later years exasperating the situation. I mean in December 2014 Aonuma was asked if he was sure it would release 2015 and he said yes...

One of my favorite games of all time that I will revisit often. Deserves every bit of the praise it recieves.

Well I did not word it well. I think it is interesting how many Wii U owners where annoyed that BotW got postponed and today almost noone has anything negative to say about the game and many think that this decision was a good one.

Nintendo decided what is best for the company. If BotW would have released solely in 2015 on the WiiU it would have never generate the same hype.
