Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Third-Party Docks Are Bricking Nintendo Switch Consoles since update

I don't know if this has been posted here but I know some of you switch owners might have a 3rd party docking station for your Switches.  Beware!

Sketchy, that would make me very depressed if mine bricked and I lost all my data. Apparently it causes the Switch to be very difficult to charge and no longer able to dock... how did a firmware update even cause something like that? Very strange.

Thanks Nintendo.

This also happens when you leave it undocked for months and let the battery die totally lol. For some reason when it is really flat it doesn't detect that it is being charged.

You have to hold the power button down for like 30 seconds then plug it straight into the charger for about 30mins to an hour and hope it works lol.

At least with mobiles they detect that there is charge and you know it will take a while before you can boot it up from a long state of being flat for months.

So this is Nintendo's plan to drive the sales of Switch units in 2018.
I guess they don't have much confidence in the sales potential of Smash (2018) and Fire Emblem (2018).

Hopefully this can be resolved shortly.

Mine actually has something akin to that problem whenever I allow it to run out of battery power while in standby mode and then attempt to start it when it's plugged in, but I've since found that if I just plug it in and leave it on the charger for a few minutes it's able to boot up properly. This is a problem that has persisted through multiple patches and definitely scared me the first time lol

Huh, I didn't even know there were 3rd party docks for the Switch...

Never buy third party junk. lol

Who would buy unlicenced stuff anyway. That's asking for crap.

Nintendo is going to make a fortune when they decide to release an updated dock. Something smaller that doesn't has the risk of screen scratching.

You know it deserves the GOTY.
