Should the Nintendo Switch get a price cut?

It depends on the holiday line up. If Pokemon is coming AND we get a new Smash, price cut will not be needed. If the second half of the year is as slow as the first, I feel a drop or discounted price to 250 would be beneficial.

So in other words, I cannot accurately say until E3. Regardless however, it is still selling great in all regions at 300 despite a slower 1st half and remains on top in Japan now that MH hype has died down.

I didn't think Switch would do 200k a week in the middle of March. That's phenomenal. So no it doesn't need a price cut at all.

Not at the moment but in a couple of years yes. Why it's not selling that much at the moment is because it haven't got any huge system seller games at the start of this year when smash releases it's over.

I'm not really convinced Nintendo cares about how it's selling relative to the PS4 on a weekly basis. As long as it's selling well and they're making a happy profit, there's no need for a price-cut.

4 ≈ One

Switch is selling very well. Nintendo likes making money on their hardware. Why would they consider a price drop when they are basically printing money with their hardware sales, new hits like Odyssey and Zelda, and rereleases like Mario Kart? This doesn't make any sense. Just to catch up in the console war (read that sarcastically)?

A drop to 250 would be nice for me personally of course, but probably not for Nintendo, and they're unlikely to feel they need to do it.

So, they never admited the 3DS poor launch price and line up ?

Man, I guess we ended up in a parralel dimension then, I was sure they cut the price of the 3DS few months later and Iwata apologized for that.

In WiiU's case. They would have just lost money if they did so. Better do some profits instead of loosing by selling more.

Can you read?

I said that they "really don't like to admit that there is a problem", not that they "never admit it".

Is it normal for video game companies to enjoy admitting there is a problem?

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Honestly we all want price cuts. But we all know the Switch is doing well and it's not even a year old so business wise Nintendo doesn't need to.

(Unlike the Wii U where they dropped the basic model to $199 Canadian when I got mine within a year of it's release)

I hope when Switch does have a price cut itll come with a new model.

Nintendo isn't in competition with Sony or Microsoft, as weird as that maybe be for many here. How is Nintendo competing with itself? That is a better question, and the answer is they're doing undeniably well. The premise of this thread is ridiculous. You're comparing the 3rd year sales of a console that has a well established library/online community to year old hybrid that against all expectations just outsold the Wii's first year.

Making something cheaper doesn't always make it more attractive. Great products and services make it more attractive. Certainly there's been a slump in software output and new reasons for people to go out and pick up a Switch, but Labo is on its way (even if Labo doesn't sell, the marketing blitz will help the Switch as a whole) and E3 is right around the corner, sure to inspire many fence sitters. Oh, and we know Smash and online connectivity are just around the corner as well.

As with many threads, this one's greatest weakness is being too reactionary too quickly. Stay the course, continue to release innovative and imaginative products, and don't get complacent. That should be the mantra of Nintendo.

Finally, the poll results will be skewed. You can't ask a binary question to a group comprised of at least 4 fanbases, particularly when two of those fanbases just about despise each other. There are people who think $99 is too much for a Switch and will always pick "This thing needs a price cut; it's too expensive for what you get."

You only do price cuts when the manufacture becomes cheaper and/or the interest on the hardware declines too much.Neither is the case now.
