Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Sea of Thieves is Microsoft's fastest selling first party new IP of this generation.

Not surprise considering the complete lack of first party IP's from Microsoft. Theirs probably going to be a backlash after playing on the Xbox game pass its very boring and repetitive with unbelievable lack of content.

Excellent insight. Please tell us more about your experiences so far in the game. How many hours in are you?

I'm glad the game did well. Tried it on a friend's house and we both enjoyed it very much. Hopefully this will incentive Microsoft to invest in more new IPs.

so it sold more than PUGB on xbox? you said it yourself, the wording isnt clear, and guess what, this is greenberg and thats intentional, its a spin and after years and years of MS spinning like this its sad that people still cant catch it. they "consider" isnt the same as technically the announcement is about first party IP. this is like how Sony treated Destiny as a first party IP.

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2016/04/14/39364/.

look at the wording there in the Quantum Break post, it says "MS published IP". here they are using First Party IP for a reason.

Agreed. I'll wait for official numbers before saying congrats. Though, this seems to be another No Man's Sky. We'll have to wait and see if MS is going to sink as much time and money into it as Hello Games did to flesh it out.

Eh.... I dont recall MS making huge promises about what this game was. Its kinda exactly what I expected.

With No Man's Sky, I believe people were very much mislead. We werent even sure if it was a social experience, but the the answer was kinda yes but not really...

I think its silly to treat these two as the same. Not even the same genre really.

I think the game sold around ~45-50K on Xbox One in the UK. That would suggest something like 400-500K worldwide. It is tge best selling game, all time, on Windows Store/Windows 10.

The total for first week should be 700-800K.

"Rare's most ambitious game" isn't a huge promise? Please. They made it seem like this had endless hours of fun. Instead people are getting bored after a couple hours. And seeing everything the game has to offer in under 4 hours.

It seems to me they spent years on the water tech, not the game and content itself.

Well deserved. Good to see Rare back in the positive news. Now lets wait for the haters to try to spin this.
Rare now needs to flood out up dates to keep the ball rolling.

  • D4 - Dark Dreams Don't Die
  • Super Time Force
  • Kalimba
  • Screamride
  • Quantum Break

Are the first party IPs from MS this generation. Sea of Thieves outsold them.

How do I know?
Because we had the same discussion back when Quantum Break released.

Bwahaha, nice try. I'm sure you'll stick to that precedent you set for yourself and never speak an opinion about a game you haven't played. I won't hold my breath.

Why are there quotation marks in between bought?

Im not sure... but yeah over 300k+ have bought this at full price.

Still thats alot of money, rare & MS are probably pretty happy with it.
Assumeing like ~1.4m unique gamepass buys (300k are shareing the game, ect).

1.4m x 9.99$ + 300k+ x 60$ =  lots of money.

You forget that the 300k (according to VGC, so SALT is needed) are retail sales If I am not mistaken.

300k retail ($60)
200k digitally ($60)
1 million game pass ($10)
150k Win10 PC ($50)

Rest = Account sharing.

Might this be reasonable?

Anyway: Sea of Thieves really did its job. It pushed GamePass sales big time.

Next: State of Decay 2 in just 7 weeks.
