Forums - Gaming Discussion - Dragon Quest XI coming September 4th to PS4 and Steam - Switch 'much later', no 3DS version

I was expecting the 3DS version not to be localized

Really disappointed with the Switch version though. Still no information at all on the game, and having to wait till 2019 at the earliest is a really long time

I never expected a steam release.I guess that means that SE was more than satisfied with how much DQ heroes and DQH2 have sold on the platform.

What could be problem on Switch are the cartridges: 32GB cartridges are apparently very expensive. LA noire is a 29GB game and Rockstar preferred to use 16GB cartdriges with 14GB mandatory download for the rest. DQ11 is 30GB on PS4 BTW.

If you intend to sell the game by millions in the west on Switch, maybe they prefer waiting for 32GB cartridges price cut.

But at least it's good news cause they intend to port the PS4 version, not the 3DS version.

SE must be quite unhappy with the mess in which they are with DQXI Switch : the port has been taking time, resources and money for some time already and seeing DQH/DQB sales on Switch, they can't expect very high return. No surprise to see them pushing PS4/PC.

Yaaaaaaaasssssssss finally a release date!!!!!!!!!! Day 0!!!!!!!!!!

A 3DS-release in the west was never going to happen, but the lack of a timely a timely Switch-version is bad. If i ever buy this it will be the Switch-version, no interest in playing this on PS4

Very correct. I said that it wouldn't make it over here last year and the chance of it happening only decreased with time.

I am surprised that there will be a day 1 PC port. That's out of the norm for SE. Glad to see they added some QoL upgrades to justify the awful localization delay.

DQH and DQB aren't good gauges for how a Dragon Quest game will sell on Switch. Those games didn't do too hot on PS4 either. Core RPGs in the series since DQ8 have done well overseas. If anything, Switch was DQ's best bet in the west combining the handheld and console nature of it, and considering the Switch lacks huge JRPGS. Xenoblade 2 was the first one and it sold very well. If they really wanted to push it in the west, they'd get a Switch version out sooner to take advantage of how little competition is on the platform regarding JRPGS. Meanwhile PS4 is going to get KHIII, has Ni No Kuni II, FFXV, Tales, etc.

I thought it wouldn't come this year.

I'd expect them to get a higher return on that than they would for the PC version.
