For me, the halo series. Always get bored halfway through those games.

Same here...so utterly generic. I still remember being hyped by all the reviews for Halo and how disappointed I was about the final game. Tried it again with 3 and 5...couldn’t even make it half though because if the bland writing and generic design.

>>When you say generic as an excuse to trash on a game, but the game is by no standards generic in an obvious way, and you don't expound on what you mean by generic

Every Japanese game i tried its just boring and awful...ugh.

Mario? Resident Evil? Mario Kart?

That’s just...sad.

Also agree with those who say the modern Tomb Raider games are better than the Uncharted games. More options in combat, like having a bow. And just overall more to do with actual exploration, upgrades, and scavenging. Story is probably better with Uncharted, but the last 2 Tomb Raiders just have more to them when it comes to gameplay.

Overrated for me is Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hackers Memory. And despite the overly long name, its just as good as the previous one.

These are some of the few games ill buy day one, as a sign of support and because im a huge digimon fan/digimon games have been killing it the last few years.

Also try to start Gravity Rush 2 since it finally hit the sales with a hefty cut in price. Should be playing Xenoblade 2 mega gems slot but I'm having too much fun with my new surround sound kit, friggin love it (when I finally got it working after almost two days of tinkering with it).

Then going to try to play some Halo:MCC,also later in the day Mortal Kombat XL.

Graphics aside, did you even play through OoT when it came out? So many gameplay elements of todays games was invented by OoT.

That's funny, because EgoRaptor spent almost a year edititing and producing a video criticizing Ocarina of Time  for its sluggish and half assed 3D implementation and mechanics. Basically the exact opposite of what you just said. It's one of his Sequelitis episodes - look it up.

In my opinion, every single Naughty Dog game since the first Uncharted. They are well written for the most part and have superb graphics, but that's it. They're fun to play once but a fucking chore for replays due to it's heavy focus on cutscenes and dialogue. Uncharted 4 first half's pacing was a boring mess and though it picks up the pace near the end, it's not a 10/10 game by any means.

Guess i consider them as good movies to watch once in a while, but almost mediocre games overall. They have everything that makes a movie fun: Great graphics, simple but well written story, good world building and atmosphere. But the barebones and almost on-rails gameplay, which people gloss over because they're so amused by the "spectacle", is what IMO prevents them from being this masterpiece everybody seems to think it is.

Also, Telltales games. How anyone can truly like them is beyond me. Dialogue is forced, there's more annoying characters than interesting ones. Gameplay is pretty much non existant. Story seems to be written on a "we'll think it up as we go" basis, with super contrived situations and choices that doesn't really matter. The graphics are just ugly and lazy. Animation is one of the worse i've ever seen in a game, and since watching people talking is pretty much what you'll be doing the entire game, there's no excuse for them being that bad. Just hire another animator, i've seen SFM videos better animated than these games, and they were not being paid. Then there's the crashes, constant stutters, corrupted saves, graphical and audio issues, etc. Their engine is trash, but i bet it's easy to program and they're too lazy to get out of their comfort zone to try a better engine. Even the latest version looks like shit and have the same technical issues. They're probably not good at optimizing it for different systems.

And i know they're a small studio. That's not a excuse for their laziness. There's a lot of small studios doing great things (like A4) simply because they care.

At this point it is cliche to say that Final Fantasy VII is overrated.  On every gaming message forum I've ever been on, the number of people who say FF VII is overrated has always far outnumbered apologists for the game.  This even includes people like yourself who authentically like the game and still feel it is overrated.  The question I've been asking is, "Where are all of the people overrating it?"

About 15 or so years ago, you would always have a couple of guys on a forum with handles like Sephiroth69z or IAMCLOUDSTRIFE!!!11111.  Then everyone else, even fans of the game, would think, "Man these guys are really over selling it."  The result is that tons of people think the game is overrated while a tiny, and vocal, minority are actually overrating it.

I dunno, I defend it because I do think it's a great game, and I'm replaying it and still enjoying it, but it's not the best game ever. The graphics are pretty ugly, the gameplay is super simplistic, Sephiroth is trying WAY too hard to be cool, and there are a lot of problems with the story concerning the two main characters (Cloud and Sephiroth).

That said, the rest of the storytelling and writing is well above average. It was a game way ahead of its time in many respects, and I have to commend it for that. But like I said, it gets a lot of undue praise for simply being the first of its kind in many respects, same as Ocarina of Time.

Yeah, I can agree with that.  Both FF7 and Ocarina came out about the same time, and both are often treated as the first in the series, even though neither clearly is.  I have heard that one reason FF7 and Ocarina get so much attention is that they both came out at about the same time that the internet was becoming popular.  Since they were both popular games when people started using the internet, they are treated as the first in the series.

One thing I don't understand about Ocarina though is that it doesn't get the same level of hate against it as FF7.  I have yet to play it, so I guess I will have to try it out first.  But FF7 gets both a lot of love and a lot of hate.  Ocarina just gets a lot of love.  Not sure why that is.

For me it's GTA5. We've had so many GTAs now, and GTA5 is not really doing anything special to take the series forward. In some respects it was actually a step backwards from GTA4. Maybe the online stuff is keeping it relevant somehow? I don't know, I thought that while the story and characters were entertaining, the core game play is just getting stale now. Been there done that.

That's exactly the video I linked him and he outwardly dismissed as 'a hate video' before watching it. That is also why I'm no longer discussing it with him.
