I like this post for its honesty. It's what we all think since a long time.

I feel this post is going way too far. PlayStation has contributed so much to the gaming industry and brings us so many games like GTA, CoD and the new Read Dead Redemption.

Take your hate and shove it where the sun don't shine.

I know, I was out of line. Mods I accept my banning

My 2nd desire is for MS and Sony to at least offer SSD cache. Load times this generation are already atrocious with 1080p textures, they will be truly awful next gen with 4k textures if they use just a standard 5400rpm hard-drive with no SSD cache.

Output resolution doesn't equate to texture resolution, I wish more people understood that.
Many games are using 4096x4096 resolution textures, some even more than that on even a standard base Xbox One.

5400rpm drives today offer significantly better performance than the 5400rpm drives of old that are in the Xbox One and Playstation 4.
Higher density platters have helped significantly to that end, especially in regards to sustained reads/writes.

Hopefully they use 7200rpm drives at a minimum though as it wouldn't drive up costs.

So you want reduced competition that results in higher prices and less innovation? Okay then.
Might need to get a second job to buy a console again.

-go back to cartridges
they have more storage, free up more space inside the console, and load faster than discs

But also cannot play CD/DVD/Blu-Ray.
Meaning media capability is significantly reduced, it also removes disc-based backwards compatibility entirely.

-make them faster
it still amazes me how quick the Nintendo Switch is in terms of loading up games. just press a button to take it out of sleep mode, press A, and youre already in the game. i would even argue that its more convenient than steam, and i think all consoles should follow suit.

Partly that is due to the games being smaller and less intensive on switch.

-backwards compatibility
having to keep around multiple other consoles just to play old games is a drag, and i would much prefer having a single platform on which i can play everything. if i have to buy it again and download it then so be it.

This conflicts with your first point of wanting carts.

Well. The faster drives are a good 12x. Real world read speeds are around 50-54MB/s.
That still pales in comparison to a mechanical disk which can be multiples faster than that.

Carts would likely drive up prices of games.

I am okay with installs, you only have to install them once and that's it, the Switch despite having carts still has load times and installs on some games.

2 meter long charge cables (Xbox having lithium batteries by default).

I like the AA batteries. I don't need to have any cables at all, just hot swap the batteries when they go flat.

Plus non-replaceable batteries have a finite amount of charge cycles, not everyone knows how to replace a battery inside their electronics.
And if the Playstation 4 is any indication, the controller has a short battery life anyway which is partly attributed to the 3,000mAh cell. - You can have twice that capacity with a pair of quality AA batteries.

I would like to have both options to be honest, there is no reason why we couldn't have that.

BC and the option of physical games.

60 fps standard.
1440p minimum.
PS4 Backwards compatibility.

Any thing else is gravy.

4 ≈ One

Something I would really like to see and should've been implemented a while ago is the idea of integrated dev tools as part of a pay to play/participate for aspiring game developers.

I'm obsessed with customization. Ever since create a character I've always said that every game should incorporate some sort of user creation.

But this idea would one up that notion.

Basically...with a membership youre granted access to programs...that would obviously be dumbed down for the masses....that allow users to make their own games.

What I would do is have a system where once games meet a certain criteria...they could be funded by producers or studios and proceeds or any sales would be contracted to the creators.

I honestly believe that idea would generate huge sales and open a market and possibly a certain demographic of players/developers.

  1. Those mandatory installs are there for a reason. Running games off a HDD is infinitely faster than pulling data off a disc. An 8x Bluray drive has a speed of aroind 32MB/s. Vs a run off the mill 5200rpm mechanical HDD which will allow at least 150MB/s speeds. Lets not even mention SSDs. Think of it this way, remember the last time yoi looked at a load screen for say 30 secs? If they were not doomg mandatory installs that load screen will take 3mins.

  2. Hahaha... Never gonna happen.

Then they should get a faster speed, or use cartridges.

There really ian't anythimg faster. In truth, Hard drives are the fastest solutions.

When you make a cart fast enoigh to match the speeds of an SSD (over 500MB/s) then said cart will become prohibitively expensive.

Just think of HDDs as the-modern day glorified cart and discs as nothing more than a transport medium for your games to said HDD.

The Switch works fine without having to install the games.

I'm not excited about getting a PS5 anytime soon. I feel like we can get another 3 more years out of PS4.

What I would like is better storage. I have to keep deleting things just to make sure I got room on my PS4. So I would like for the 1tb to become the base console.

No online pay would be wonderful but they making too much money off them damn cards so I don't expect this to change.

I'm fine with how PS4 is right now so if they can keep what they're doing to PS5 I would be fine.

Have a good subscription service that lures more people in to buy digital, and by 2023-2024, when the vast majority has gone all digital, have the Slim models be digital only with no disk drive.

Eliminate physical copies of games out of the equation. Get rid of the middleman.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.
