I should have been more clear, I'm referring to worldwide sales launch aligned.

PS4's lineup in 2018 dwarfs PS4's lineup in 2015 critically and commercially. Its not close in any measure. Far stronger? C'mon now lol.

Obviously, PS4 having a stronger library of games is a factor, but exclusive software moves more hardware compared to limited third party bundles. Switch being a hybrid, is the most favorable factor within PS4 comparisons, as it draws from both handheld and console consumers, IMO.

Anyways, PS4 won this particular comparison, which is the main point of my post, despite the massive consensus in this thread that expected Switch to win.

First, even world wide sale it will be very close or Switch will ahead.

But fact is that PS4 2015. lineup is far stronger than Switch 2018. lineup.

You missing fact that 3rd party are biggest system mover for PS4 and XB1, sales of games also proves thats. Limited bundles does not have anything with that, we talking about games releases.

100k is not realyl big difference in any case, and dont forget, 2015. was strongest year for PS4 in US, while Switch was very close to PS4 sales without price cut and with not great lineup most of year, 2019. for Switch should be quite stronger.

PS4 2014 & 2015 worldwide sales are 1.5 Million+ ahead of Switch 2017 & 2018 worldwide sales.

Switch hybrid nature more than makes up for the lack of third party games. Its a big factor as to why the Switch is defying expectations. Its as big a factor as PS4's strong third party support is in these comparisons.

You're really talking about a price cut for the Switch in PS4 comparisons lol? A PS4 price cut this year would be massive YOY, and would put it in the same ball park as the Switch in terms of affordability.

Switch 2019 US sales should beat any PS4 year in the US, though. I also think Switch 2019 WW sales should slightly beat PS4's peak year at the very least. Should be the peak year for the Switch too. I predict 20 - 22 Million. Anything below would be disappointing, IMO.

Thats still very close, its around 5% difference.

Like you wrote, they are different and you have pluses and minuses on both side when you compare them.

Of Course I do, in same time period PS4 had price cut, Switch still didn't had not one price cut, we talking about facts here. Talking about this year, Switch price cut would also make Switch selling more.

Agree, I don't see anything below 20m+ in 2019. for Switch, but its still early to say if that will be peak Switch year, but it will deffinatly be stronger than 2018. in any case.

The PS4 was still more expensive than the Switch even with their temporary price cut in 2015. Both consoles have yet to receive a "mass appeal" price - cut, but the fact is, Switch will be more affordable in general than the PS4 is when comparing their lifetimes.

A $199 PS4 would be a whole different animal. Especially in Europe and ROW where Sony has a stranglehold. It would be comfortably up YOY in NA + Japan. Even this late in the generation, I can see 18 - 20 Million FY, if Sony do a $100 price cut in March. Very unlikely though.

Nintendo has no incentive to cut price this year either.

No, you are wrong. PS4 had a permanent price cut to $350 in October 2015, and then it had temporary deals at $300 in November and December. These bundles also included a pack-in game, so the cheapest PS4 bundle in 2015 was identical to the cheapest Switch bundle in 2018.

You're right. I don't remember seeing these kind of deals. It's still $399 here in Canada.

Regardless, PS4 was more expensive throughout its lifetime, and for the majority of 2015.

The PS4 was released at a time where the CAN$ was at parity with the US$ and it’s original was 399,99$ like you said. It saw an increase at 450$ latter on once the CAN$ value started to drop and returned at 399$ with it’s first permanent cut in 2015. The Switch was at 399$ for the majority of it’s life and dropped recently to 379$ to adjust to $ value.

But overall, both consoles are sold in the same price range in Canada and it doesn’t seem to affect the sales of each ones.

But who cares? You can't just compare prices of completely different devices like that.

PS4 is significantly more powerful, has significantly more storage and includes a Blu-ray player, why wouldnt it be more expensive?

I'm just saying.

Portability is huge for the Switch, arguably the most significant factor in PS4 comparisons, as it draws from the handheld market as well as the console market.

PS4 has direct competition, too.

You're literally just pulling excuses out of a hat to make Switch sales seem less impressive.

Lol, you think I'm downplaying Switch? Just in this thread, I predicted it to beat PS4's peak year, as well as PS4's best yearly NPD.

It doesn't matter to me why the Switch sells great. I came in this thread to celebrate a PS4 victory.
