I just want to quote someone from era :

"
Switch will be the best selling platform line ever when it's all said and done.

It just has too many weapons to conquer.

- Most marketable looking, named, themed, thought out device in Nintendo history
- Combined home and portable divisions
- Complementing the mobile craze rather than competing with it.
- Several expanded audience Labo type experiments planned to rope in new demographics
- Nintendo's growing name and branding in movies, theme parks, cell phone
- Massive IP like Pokemon, Smash, and Mario Maker
- Increasing third party support for the first time in generations for a Nintendo console
- Huge indie presence
- International appeal and moving into new territories.
- Potential for revision and upgrades"

Like really this is exactly what i mean. People assuming the console is loosing momentum in 2018 is only because there was no big games on the horizon nor announced for the year (that we actually had something to look foward too like gameplay or something).
The Switch is in the post launch year phase rn, devs that got devs kits will most likely release games starting end of 2018/2019 and most of teams from Nintendo didn't release anything on Switch yet that is brand new. Switch is grabbing the gamer market by the end with games like Zelda/Odyssey, upcoming Smash/Pokémon/Metroid/Bayonetta games and will also take upon the casual market with Labo and all the INSANE marketing they will receive from the Universal theme parks AND movies.

There is probably more stuff that Nintendo is working on right now that we have no idea about like a Netflix series of Splatoon or whatever. Also don't forget about China :p

It could really have potential in China if they release the right games at launch. I've heard the Pokemon series is pretty well known in China, if that's a launch title it could give them some good momentum to start with.

It won’t be. Even Zhugex is saying that by month 13 Wii explodes - Switch won’t be able to keep up.

Switch will leg it out in the end however. Wii really lost momentum in year 4/5.

It did but by then it’ll be too far ahead for the Switch to catch up.

So much for the Switch losing momentum. :)

even with supply issue last year switch was able to avg 250k between april - october? i think switch will have a hard time doing 300k for april - october. lets say it can avg 300k from april - october (which i doubt it) that still leaves it 250k behind. it can make up 250k in november but it will be tough

Sure, if you believe that it will be a challenge for Switch to sell more than 1m units in November, then it will be tough.

not just november. theres a good chance it can do 1m+ in november but it will have to avg 300k for the next few months. when i said tough i didnt mean just november. it will be tough to beat its first year. i thought it was impossible but i forgot about the month of november. 800k does seem quite low

Impressive, though the comparison isn't quite one-to-one. Here's a comparison between the Switch, PS4, and 3DS aligned to the first full Q2:

For their first respective 12-month April-February period, that's:

NSW: 4,527,500
PS4: 4,316,000
3DS: 4,130,000

So, the Switch still wins regardless. It is worth pointing out that the Switch got a bonus week for Jan. 2018. The average was 54k/week, assuming 270k for the month was accurate. Not enough to change the ranking, though.

Thanks for the info.

Switch selling very well, but the only reason it's beating ps4 is because of the launch boost, this year will be 100% fair comparison, and ps4 is already in the lead.

Very impressive

Switch will no doubt do really well this year as well

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Ah, I love seeing old goalpost slogans. Funny enough I haven't seen anyone say it's gonna bomb harder than the Gamecube.

It's kind of funny how no one brings up the N64, too. That console just exists in a weird vacuum between success and failure.
