Hope it stays around in the 80 to 89 range.

Well, I was thinking 72/73 when it's all said and done, but the more I think about it the more I worry that might not be enough. it might be 66-68

Why? Well, I got in on the first and second betas, I played both of them for about 5 hours each, and I felt like there wasn't really anything to the game. I didn't like the controls (they felt sluggish), combat was far too simplistic, and everything felt sort of empty. After playing a total of about 10 hours on the beta, I came to realize this had no depth, no real content. When I heard it as $39.99, I thought that price was too high.

Then the price went up to $79.99.

Then there were no reviews pre-release.

Then the game launched to zero fanfare (I have to actively seek out previews and first impressions).

And now that I'm eager to read more, eager to learn more and hope for the best, I go to Metacritic and Youtube, and I can't help but feel that the 'positive' reviews are generic 'it's fun' with little explanation as to WHY it's fun. Meanwhile, the negative reviews are all going into depth about the same things I was worried about. No character progression, no story mode, simplistic combat, repetitive missions, and no depth.

Hell, even the youtube videos that were praising the game made it sound boring to me, with compliments such as 'it's not about the destination, it's about the journey, and you have to make that journey yourself', and 'it's a sandbox, and you tell your own story in it', and 'you have to find ways to make your own fun, because the game doesn't guide you in any one direction'.

None of that sounds fun to me. Of course it'll have its audience, but even the compliments and praise it's getting doesn't sound appealing to me. I don't like games where you have to 'find your own story'. I don't like games that don't have a destination. This is reminding me more of No Man's Sky/Destiny for various reasons. I didn't like either of those games.

Not even the pirate theme will fix this. If I really wanna sail the seas, I'll just go play Assassin's Creed IV.

I still want this game to be good, and I trust official critic reviews much more than I trust users (users rarely know what the heck they're talking about and are more prone to fanboyism), but so far the only compliments that appeal to me are that it's pretty and has a good art design, and that it has the potential to be fun with friends.

Too bad it also sounds empty with virtually no depth to its content.

I think this game will end up at 80, but for real...imho, i think 80 is too much for this game and i realy don't like it.

SoT just looks empity and repetitive, the combat is sh#@$, at least the sea, islands, ships , and general environment are good looking, unlike the ugly character models.

My personal score is sintting at 5~6( i don't like this kind of game), but i think the meta socore will be at ~80.

Seems fair to me!

‘User Reviews’  Meaning people who don’t own the game can write anything.  It just translates to console wars because Xbox is an easy target.

Early user reviews are almost always trolls, especially when it comes to console exclusives... that, or fanboys trying to combat those trolls lol

Yeah, I had heard this. But, with the lack of critic reviews, I checked out some of the user reviews. Seemed like the reviews that were more extensive, detailed, and gave actual specific critiques were more commonly the ones with low scores; whereas, the positive scores more commonly either said very little or spoke in generalities (e.g. “This game is the best”, “This game is fun”, etc.)

Btw...is Azzanation a big Xbox fan? He gave the game a 10 on metacritic.

Im really liking it. I have just messed around solo so far, going to crew up and try that today as well.

I have played most of the betas and really liking it so far, the only 2 complaints i have is 1. I have spawned with no equipment, and I could not equip anything out of the chest, so I had no shovel or sword or anything. The only way out of that bug is to die or restart the game itself. 2. shit is expensive as hell.

Other than that its been a fun few hours so far.

If it's not PlayStation, he is a fan. Yes.

He has also already played the game very extensively despite it not having been out for a full day yet, so his 10 is quite meaningful and completely fair.

Gong to go with a 80 on this one.

Probably gonna end around 75

I think it will be bit better than most expect it to be.

I predict 81

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
