Well, I was thinking 72/73 when it's all said and done, but the more I think about it the more I worry that might not be enough. it might be 66-68

Why? Well, I got in on the first and second betas, I played both of them for about 5 hours each, and I felt like there wasn't really anything to the game. I didn't like the controls (they felt sluggish), combat was far too simplistic, and everything felt sort of empty. After playing a total of about 10 hours on the beta, I came to realize this had no depth, no real content. When I heard it as $39.99, I thought that price was too high.

Then the price went up to $79.99.

Then there were no reviews pre-release.

Then the game launched to zero fanfare (I have to actively seek out previews and first impressions).

And now that I'm eager to read more, eager to learn more and hope for the best, I go to Metacritic and Youtube, and I can't help but feel that the 'positive' reviews are generic 'it's fun' with little explanation as to WHY it's fun. Meanwhile, the negative reviews are all going into depth about the same things I was worried about. No character progression, no story mode, simplistic combat, repetitive missions, and no depth.

Hell, even the youtube videos that were praising the game made it sound boring to me, with compliments such as 'it's not about the destination, it's about the journey, and you have to make that journey yourself', and 'it's a sandbox, and you tell your own story in it', and 'you have to find ways to make your own fun, because the game doesn't guide you in any one direction'.

None of that sounds fun to me. Of course it'll have its audience, but even the compliments and praise it's getting doesn't sound appealing to me. I don't like games where you have to 'find your own story'. I don't like games that don't have a destination. This is reminding me more of No Man's Sky/Destiny for various reasons. I didn't like either of those games.

Not even the pirate theme will fix this. If I really wanna sail the seas, I'll just go play Assassin's Creed IV.

I still want this game to be good, and I trust official critic reviews much more than I trust users (users rarely know what the heck they're talking about and are more prone to fanboyism), but so far the only compliments that appeal to me are that it's pretty and has a good art design, and that it has the potential to be fun with friends.

Too bad it also sounds empty with virtually no depth to its content.

After reading your comments I feel like slashing my wrists. Seems like you already made up your mind regarding how terrible this game is, and it's not even out yet. Go stand there in the doorway with JRPGfan while I step into the tub, will you.

So I predicted a "74" score for it.
Its currently at "63" on OpenMeta, and "67" on Metacritic.

I hope you havnt done anything drastic.

Lower than No Mans Sky actually.

Dont think anyone complained about lack of content on day of release, with No Man's Sky.
Except for the multiplayer aspect (that came a few weeks into it), people wondering why no one ran into one another ever.

I enjoyed playing the beta before launch more than the huge lie that they said no mans sky you can do anything. I got tricked into buying that game i was lied . And that's why I hate no mans sky

Rare lied too, they said something like Beta is only 10% of the content, theres much more to do in the full game.
Full game launches and day1 people are saying its lacking content.

If not a "lie" then a over-exaggeration to the point of it being a lie.

I think the game will grow over the year. It would be good for Rare to announce some sort of roadmap for the year before people get bored and start trading it in. Gamers will need some sort of incentive over the coming months to continue playing.

Guiz it's only 4 reviews atm xD It can easily raise (or get worse)

Let's wait before we talk about predictions being wrong

I took the liberty of counting, because it's 2:30 am, and my life is on TRACK. That's 7 times you've posted mostly unsolicited comments about Mo Man's Sky. It's getting weird. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to re-activate dormant my facebook account and creep on people while they sleep.

I predicted the game would average sub 70. Looks like I wasnt wrong. Its early though....lol

i think this game will be like driveclub, which has a possibility of getting better with updates.. but again one is from sony and another one is from microsoft.. and considering how MS is struggling with development and getting games out this gen, I wont count on SoT improving much.

I reckon something happened that we're not aware of. This game has been in development for at least 3 years (I think) and the only enemy I've seen so far after watching gameplay is skeletons? I also noticed that when you kill pigs they just fade out. After all this time? We're going to hear about this in the not too distant future because I just don't understand how this can happen to a AAA developer supported by what is said to be the wealthiest console manufacturer on the planet. Here's a comment from one of the devs who posted about it on Reddit:

The PS5 Exists.

No matter the reviews the game is loved more than no mans sky ever and that's saying something since most twitch streamers hated no mans sky and twitch it was mixed with some liking it and others don't

That's exactly right. Too many on the net only care about the sales figures or scores.. instead of worrying about the main thing, does the game have a place? It certainly does, it has its audience, and that's what matters. The game wasn't meant to get 10s, it was meant to create an experience. Its a sandbox game finding those long serving customers much like what MMOs do.

World of Warcraft isn't a 95+meta game yet go argue with a fan of WoW? The score does not matter, the fun does.

Also to add, No Man Sky's issue was not the content for me, it was the lies that Hello Games and Sony did to promote it. I expected a simpler version of Star Citizen and got nothing but a Minecraft in space with no MP. That's what hurt me. Rare has been honest from the start with SoTs and the game is a start for much more to come.

Iv played it, its no 10/10, however it doesn't have to be.
