It's a tie between Final Fantasy and the Soulsborne (or just Souls, if you don't want to throw Bloodborne in there) for me. Final Fantasy edges Souls in terms of being around for much much more, and having many more entries, and Souls edges Final Fantasy in having a more consistent quality across it's four (or five) games plus DLCs.

Both are pretty much top-tier, still.

Shin Megami Tensei, including Persona, of course. Although, the mainline SMT games are my favorites.

Runner-up: Pokemon

I've only played Symphonia, Zestiria, and Berseria, and I loved all three of them. What I really love about these games is the combat. I haven't found a game that comes even close to the depth of their combat mechanics.

How are the PS2 entries?

Ramdom can answer better than me (and already has it looks like), but Abyss is absolutely amazing. I liked Symphonia more (Symphonia is actually in my top 5 games), but Abyss had some really interesting themes and great character development. Also some great tracks...this was my alarm tone for a long time.

Haven't played Legendia, but I mean to someday.

More people need to play both Symphonia and Abyss though...both are amazing and the franchise deserves more recognition.

My old PS3 which was backwards compatible with PS2 games crapped out on me recently (still have two other PS3s, but neither are BC), so 3DS games are more accessible at the moment. Hopefully the 3DS version turned out okay, as I'm considering it now after the recommendations.

And to the person who asked about Shadow Hearts, holy crap. I have a memory from when I was younger of playing it at a friend's house, but all these years I could not recall what game it was. It was definitely Shadow Hearts; had no idea it was a series though. I will be finding myself a copy. Edit: Game is pretty expensive on eBay, at the moment.

Dark Souls

Probably Suikoden followed by Final Fantasy, Shin Megami Tensei and Dark Souls.

Huh... could swear i had posted on this thread, but i couldn't find anything.

So, at first thought what comes to mind is the Grandia series. I massively enjoyed every single title, including Xtreme. The combat system is simply the best. I really wish they made more. I know the series creator died, but surely there is still staff that can carry the torch, like with Star ocean.

There would be a time in the past where i would've said Suikoden... but #Fuckonami They have long since killed the team and the series as they always do. Konami is the japanese EA.

I find it funny to see so many mentions of the Tales series. It's imo, the most irregular series out there. Every few games they come out with a gem, then they forget how to make games for a while. Phantasia, Symphonia, Abyss and Vesperia are absolute gold. The rest ranges from average to terrible. Lately, mostly terrible.

Persona is a contender for number two, but the first two games are doozies lost in time. Very archaic.

So, for number two i'm gonna say everything falcom. They consistently make quality RPG's. Be it, Ys, Legend of heroes or Tokyo xanadu.

I guess i should mention KH. As far as series go, it's been consistenly good. But the fact that it's a big overarching story always leaves you with a cliffhanger. Hopefully KH3 is the payoff we have been waiting for.

Just a quick question, has anybody played the Shadow Hearts series?

No, I'm on the lookout for those games though!

1. Pokemon

2. Tales of (mainly Symphonia)

3. Xenoblade (mainly Chronicles 2)

Went through quite the Dragon Quest phase back in the day as well, but it hasn't really held up for me nearly as much.
