The BotW champions could make some fine additions to Smash. I'd main Urbosa since she's so cool.

I just don't think it makes a lot of sense because Link's move set will probably already have some of the powers granted by the champions ... and also the champions make way more sense as an assist item ... but I wouldn't really be opposed to them I guess. Especially Ravioli and Urbosa, Urbosa is so fucking cool and Ravioli would have a really easy move set ... almost too easy.

They might as well keep the clones. They take little effort to make and can appeal to someone with different tastes.

Example: I play Lucina over Marth because I prefer her blade dealing consistent damage/knockback and i'm not a fan of spacing. Also, I Main Dr. Mario because I don't like how Mario plays. I also just like Lucina and Dr. Mario as characters more than their counter-parts.

I don't really see a reason to drop the clones if they're just extra characters

Ganondorf are Falco are also clones themselves (unless they've been changed to the point that they aren't anymore).

When the game comes out, I challenge my rusty scrub ass to your pro skills in some good ol' 1v1s.

Anyways, I want Joker (Persona 5) and Crash Bandicoot in this game, I'll sell my soul if I have to.

You ain't ready for prime time ultra, I'm gonna beat you like I did back in the first vgc tourney I won

there are enough hints scattered throughout the teaser to say that this is a new game and not a port. the overall style was changed drastically from the Wii U / 3DS reveals, whereas before every character reveal had a unique splash screen, while the Inklings were just there. there are also a few changes to the logo, with the cross now cutting between the letters, and smash ball in place of the 'O' is now a perfect circle, whereas before it was slanted to the right. not to mention Link's outfit has been updated to resemble his Breath of the Wild appearance, which would be going a little far for just a port.

that being said i can imagine a lot of Smash 4's content returning in Smash 5. a lot of the stages were amazing and many of the 3DS stages would look amazing in full HD. as for new content, i dont need much to satisfy. I just want Ice Climbers to return, maybe some new better costumes, and one or two new game modes would be enough for me.

We know is a new game

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

This is kind of the problem with the Smash community when it comes time to predict Rosters. It's not that they want characters to be cut, but it's that it's been such a consistent thing since Brawl that they almost arrogantly focus on predicting which characters are going to be cut ... as if it HAS to happen because it's been this way before so it has to be this way again! I guess it's just a consequence of being so interested in rosters.

In reality, I think we're going to see the developers try their hardest to keep most of the characters. Cuts might happen unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if Square Enix took out Cloud so they could charge for him later. And I also think it's somewhat likely that Fire Emblem characters will be cut (and replaced). But I do think at this point, with a roster as good as Smash 4's,  it's really not necessary to cut much anymore.

I'll make a prediction: with the 3DS out of the picture the Ice Climbers are coming back!
