This game is redemption for past sins. Sony killed two birds with one stone with this game:

1) They will keep their game current.

2) They would have also silenced the critics who said god of war was a gorefest helmed by a one dimensional character. They also solved the puzzle of how many gods kratos can take out once olympus was taken down. In this game Kratos seems to be multidimensional because he has someone who has to take care of and has to think about what hes doing. Kratos is not the type to care for anyone or anything, so critics will be happy to see a new side of him. No need for a reboot. Its redemption.

That's the point though, I'm not sure I want an emotional or sensible Kratos. Like I wouldn't want a serious Dante or a chaste Bayonetta. Hack'n'Slash lends itself well to brash, impulsive, over the top characters because it suits the gameplay style, which is why I'm apprehensive about this new Kratos.

That and any attempt to make a serious, heartfelt story for someone like Kratos just seems completely laughable. We'll see if they'll be able to pull it off.

We'll see. Making such big changes the core gameplay is a big risk, so we'll see if it pays off.  That type of change is either something that people love or hate.

Gotta ask yourself this, if this weren't GOW' and that isk't Kratos... would ypi still play the game? would you take the game on its own merits and as its own uniqe IP?

I think this is something a lot of peoplw are missing here.

For me, if this weren't GOW; I would still want the hell outta this game from what I've seen.

Probably not. It looks like a worse version of games I've already played. Considering I haven't played Shadow of War yet and that looks years better than this does.

I'm speechless.

But then if thats the case its simple. You dont like the game or arwn't interested in it. Which I can respect. Games are such subjective things.

I personally can't think of a single game it looks like.

To be honest, its what I prayed the order would have been, slower than bloodborne, faster than dark souls and has more combat depth than both.

I really hate the focus on smaller fights and the concept of needing a small kid to win battles or traverse terrain. The camera might be "bring you closer to the action" but I think it's more to detract from how little is going on when you're actually fighting. As far as it looking more brutal, I'm not sure what gameplay you've seen. It looks far less brutal and certainly less grotesque. While the attacks have more weight, it's more of a compensation for the much slower game speed. When everything is slower, each attack has more weight to it.

I watched the same gameplay as you, or I'm assuming so anyway, lol. sure there's no blood and guts like earlier games, at least on the enemies we've seen (Maybe there's no blood in the game at all...), but I still stand by my statement that it looks much more brutal, cleaving your axe into a downed enemy and hacking them in half or ripping them in half with your bare hands both seem pretty brutal if I'm being honest, lol. I also don't think the gameplay will be much slower, people are saying it looks like the Souls games, but is that only because it's over the shoulder and R1+R2 to attack? Because I've seen proper combos and juggling being done in combat, both things that were done in the original games that I'm 100% sure aren't in the Souls games, lol.

I guess we'll just have to wait until closer to release, apparently we're gonna' be seeing more of it leading up to release, so maybe that'll help you make a final decision.

There is definitely blood in it. Just watch the part where Kratos bashes that teleporting witch, he’s covered in blood. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen an interview where Cory Barlog said they wanted to reduce the amount of blood, so that when they actually use it it becomes a more intense experience as it’s something that doesn’t appear so often from other traditional enemies.

Well, I didn't mean to make you speechless lol. I just didn't realize people were so excited for this one as I haven't been in the right threads I guess. I still will give it a shot, but it'll be the first GOW since the first I didn't buy on release day.

All of those things existed in the other version of the game, but it was more stylized to show it off. Because of the graphical improvements and style change, it makes sense that it's toned down to not be too shocking. That's a fair spot to hold, but I'm not optimistic.

Errrrr... have you also not been on the internet?

You and a few other people (whose console preferences come into play) are the only (and very few) people I have seen not be excitwd for this game. The last game whose previews recieved such universal acclaim was Zelda.

You do know that this game is inspired by cory's son right? Most of these developers are getting older and are making these stories more personal. Sonys blessed to have some of the best developers in the industry. You might just be surprised what level they are on once they put this game out. One thought Uncharted, Horizon or last of us might remind people, but this just might be something that shocks you.

They also seem to forget that kratos is sensible when it comes to his kid - remember chains of olympus?

Most of these fans who say Kratos has no depth in the past games seem to ignore all the moments where he did show depth and remorse, and that is especially true of the portable games. For some crappy reason people just assume the portable games aren't worth playing just because they were on the PSP and they still call themselves fans. These portable games are way better than GOW 1/Ascension and on the level of 2 and 3.
