Which ones? Can you list them?

Which ones protect all speech including hate speech or offensive speech?

Europe is so unbelievably backwards when it comes to "freedom of speech" and that is why the vast majority of western democracies hold last place compared to America itself in this respect ...

Hate speech should be THE MODEL for absolute freedom of speech and nothing less!

I would like a poll for what is more absurd in the mind of users here, this law where you get fined for being sexist etc or a 2nd amendment where it is okay to buy and carry weapons.

This Belgian law reminds me of parenting. I've seen and heard many parents say something down the lines off, "we're letting you go to this party, but be home by 10pm, don't get drunk and if you do get a taxi home or call us and we'll pick you up." then after a year of not listening and breaking the rules the parents go, "Fuck it. You are grounded, no more parties, no pocket money, no playstation until you start behaving again."

We did this at work too where we had a relaxed dress code as long as it wasn't offensive, too street, etc but then a lot of the younger staff started to abuse the freedom they were given so a stricter dress code was reinforced screwing everyone over.

Brats in any part of the world Fuck it up for everyone. Cause and effect. It's part of adulthood, or used to be at least. You do stupid shit, you need to take responsibility for your actions. It would be interesting to know if they give out similar fines for racism too.

If that's your definition (you can talk about anything publicly without any exceptions), then no country I know of has freedom of speech.

Canada will soon have anti islamaphobia laws aka blasphemy. It’ll get to the point that if we say anything negative about the religion, we’ll get fined and if you don’t pay your fine, you can go to jail.

Misgendering someone in Ontario is already against the law.

Liberals are hell bent on ruining society. Flirting is practically a crime today.

Can't wait for USA to have this......

Oh wait.....

This fine likely has much more to do with the fact he insulted this police officer and the sexist thing is just added on.

Personally I'd say the insulting or hindering of public workers can't be fined high enough. Just don't do it. Easy. It wasn't this police woman's fault you were being a dumb idiot. And this has nothing to do with limiting freedom of speech, don't be ridiculous. Freedom of speech isn't the same as going around being an ass to people just because you feel like it. It would already have been better if this guy had said "I think you belong in the kitchen", because that at least would have classified this as being his opinion instead of implying it's just a fact.

Every single western European country is more free than the US.

Most of them don't have freedom of expression or freedom of speech so I have to disagree with that.

The US did get 16/16 for freedom of speech. However, political freedom seems to be lacking sometimes.

The guy knew the law and made himself a testcase by insulting a female officer. I don't have any sympathy for that idiot.
