Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Blossom Tales for Switch surpasses Steam lifetime revenue by 20x

It's a sad reality with Steam these days that most games are just going to get lost in the avalanche of awful releases, no matter how good they are. Switch is a great platform in that sense for indie titles, as they don't have to compete with so many other games for attention, so games like these get the chance to shine.

Ya im kinda worried the same thing will happen to the Switch eShop in a few years. In 1 year they have close to 500 games on the eShop and the frequency of releases is increasing so by year 3 or 4 it will probably have like 2000-3000 games.

One thing that gives me hope though is if Nintendo continues doing their Nindies Directs a couple times a year so the higher quality releases get some exposure.

Remains to be seen how things turn out. Right now there's enough room on the Switch for most good indie games to thrive, but that could change as more games get released.

It's pretty much inevitable, at least to some degree.  Console libraries continue to grow while attach rates remain somewhat static.  It might take longer for the Switch if some of the major open-world and multiplayer games stay away, as those typically eat up lots of hours, but more competition for finite software slots will eventually have an effect.

A company saved by the Switch. Good. Let's see if this trend of positive news continue in the next years.

Nice! Love hearing about indie success stories on the Switch! I really think this platform can be a goldmine for a lot of indies, as it's not super-cluttered like Steam, not to mention the fact that many will find value in the portability, and in general the type of games indie release I think meshes well with the tastes of most Nintendo fans.
