Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Monster Boy Switch preorders 10 times higher than PS4

No, I'm just comparing scores of the games on the same platform - the PS4.

Many indies outsold Bloodborne but, really, not many. It's just an example. Pick Uncharted 4 if you wish.

There's a good reason why Sony doesn't showcase indies anymore and focus on the bigger games - that strategy helped them looking at the PS4's success. And here are some interesting stats for you:

https://www.mcvuk.com/development/average-indie-game-steam-sales-halve-yearonyear

And I'm talking about the individual outlets, not The Game Awards. They might score indie games higher (because they are in their own category) but they're not good enough to win awards.

What a load of nonsense. Indie games do win awards by the way, you can google it if you don't believe me. Minecraft (before it was bought by Microsoft), PUBG, Rocket League and Subnautica are all indie games.

These are some of the biggest and most influential games in the industry.

And yes, many indie games outsold Bloodborne and then some: Undertale, Stardew Valley, Rocket League, Minecraft, Subnautica, Super Meat Boy, Bastion, Limbo, Inside, Don't Starve & Don't Starve Together, The Binding of Isaac, etc.

Steam has a visibility problem because of all the crap they let through, but that says nothing about the quality of good indie games.

Fact of the matter is that those big AAA franchises are all becoming stagnant and they lack innovation, for the most part.

Rocket League won 7 awards. Undertale won 8. GOTYpicks doesn't show Minecraft winning anything. Super Meat Boy 0 as well. PUGB isn't indie. Subnautica seems that it was out at the beginning of this year so not sure how it won any award already.

So, essentially only 2 of the biggest indie games ever won GOTY awards and even then Bloodborne won twice as many as both combined.

That's ok if the big AAA franchises are becoming stagnant - others like Horizon or Bloodborne are still coming. We're still getting games like Dreams and Ni No Kuni and Detroit.

I already explained to you why GOTY awards are meaningless (those gaming outlets are paid by the big publishers to promote their games).

A lot of indie games are critically acclaimed and sold very well, that's what truly matters. Some of the worst games out there have GOTY editions. GOTY has always been a joke.

Horizon is just your typical Ubisoft Open World game, it does nothing to push forward the genre. Take away the visuals and you're left with a mediocre game.

And LOL at Detroit, the company behind that game has some of the worst writing in the industry... And that's quite bad considering these games have very limited gameplay to begin with. Perfect example of how over-rated cinematic games with fancy visuals are. Go watch a good movie or show instead.

Not shocking at all. MB is a perfect game (indie games in general) for Switch's portability. Given the choice i'm sure more people would prefer the Switch version. You can argue installed base all you want. Fact is along with Switch being portable, PS4 has tons on indies already on the store, more games owners are already playing. Indie games are easily marketable on the Switch.

That could be said for any Indie game.

I'm not sure any would be fair but certainly a 2D platformer with fairly retro graphics for sure. Cuphead as a 2D shooter looks a bit more resource hungry and many indie games are full 3D games too.

I guess that is my point though indie games like this are simply better on the Switch you can play them at the home for the full experience or as a portable game. One purchase price gets both experiences. It adds value to the Switch versions.

So it won't surprise me if we see this pre-order pattern repeated for many indie titles unless its a title that makes better use of the ps4's more powerful hardware.

Dude this is so off-topic but I just had to state this...

You have the BEST sig I have ever seen! Dammit I love cats!!!

But Horizon Zero Dawn has also great combat and a good story. And Heavy Rains (same developer as Detroit) Metascore is around 90, thanks to its story and characters.

You should really calm down/tone down that fanboy attitude if you want people to take your arguments seriously.

No, but several different types of robots that you can take down with varying weapons and tactics. BotW has better interactivity with the environment, but Horizon Zero Dawn has more complex and varied enemies.

Well considering how tremendously successful the PS4 is, this means that people who own a PS4 are mostly not interested in the game. I mean if PS4 users were interested in this game as they are in very successful PS4 games, sales of this game on PS4 would bury those on Switch at least for a while until Switch's sales catch up with PS4's.

So it's not so much Switch's pre-orders of this game doing well as it is PS4 pre-orders of this game doing bad which is a pity cause this game seems to be alright, not the greatest looking game ever but still okay.

But isn't the Switch also tremendously successful by breaking record as the fastest selling console in multiple countries?

Sure but how is that the issue here?

Yeah, Horizon have everything while in Zelda, you have only sword and a normal bow but in Horizon you can climbing, swimming, skiing, cooking and surfing. Why Zelda is so backward?
