Forums - Movies & TV - Tomb Raider (2018) reviews and Box Office- 48 Metacritic, 50% Rotten Tomatoes, $211m

I get a feeling critics don't care for video games or animation.

On a side note, I think it’s amazing that the Resident Evil movies got almost progressively BETTER scores for each sequel. I can’t understand how Apocalypse and the original are lower than any of them though.

Yeah same here.

I think the first is easily the best (although not good at being Resident Evil related). The second one is fun as well but everything else that follows is really mediocre.
I would say the CGI movie Degeneration is enjoyable as well, although it's been several years since I saw that. Never watched the sequel, Damnation but it's on my list.

But hey just look at Silent Hill, which is even lower than any RE, but still better than nearly all of them.

Well its almost as bad as I thought it would be. As for Mortal Kombat: Annihilation its actually so bad that its kinda good.

Where's the other Street Fighter film on that list? I figure it's similar to Mortal Kombat in that it's a guilty pleasure kind of movie where you're amused at how bad and silly things are,

I was using Metacritic and Metacritic doesn't track the first Street Fighter movie. But, the first Street Fighter movie has a 15% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I loved the Street Fighter movie, it's cheesy in a very entertaining way.

When...when will the curse be broken? Super Mario Bros. Illumination film is the next hope

I didn’t realize the first Pokemon movie was so bad

I have high hopes for the Sonic movie, has Tim Miller (Deadpool) working on it.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that one. It definitely has potential.

Sonic is known to ruin gaming and be terrible by most gamers it seems nowadays, but now Sonic will be the one to save video game movies.

Hes the hero we all need

not the case. critics nowdays are looking for movies where there isn't a lot of guns. they want movies with a lot of talking. visually stunning movie. actually. for the most part. just visually stunning

there is no reason to even have a story that has an impact on anything. it can be nonsense. unless its marvel if you want to make a movie. do not make a comedy movie unless you are using a british accent because apparently the British are the gold standard of funny nowdays (yeah its sad.) and Gravity and  2049  and dunkirk are apparently good movies . the shock on my face after watching gravity . what was even the impact of any of these movies on the universe they were in? its like am watching a documentary.

just have a movie that looks visually nice. and have a writer that can make very cringle and super official conversations. have a good sound team and you're good. 80% plus on metacricic and rotten tomatoes.

they just want something extremely hipster and strange.  or if you are a part of an established franchise you get an easy high rating. have you seen the rise of planet of the apes movies. they are fucking atrocious.

just look at rotten tomaates top list for last year :  https://www.rottentomatoes.com/top/bestofrt/?year=2017

more than half of these movies only your art gallery nerd will watch.

if you are expecting good reviews to a heavy action movie. you will not get them.

Thor was a great movie. it got good reviews. am okay with that obviously. but as someone who watched  wonder woman. the movie was pretty pathetic even for Marvel's formulaic standards. none of it really made sense and it wasn't as visually appealing as any of the marvel movies.

oh. an another easy way to get a good review. make your movie centered around ethnic groups or anyone that isn't a Caucasian.

like can you count how many movies in that list is about the struggle of the african americans in the previous century. there are a handful. which are too many for any single subject

while I do agree that no video game movie was ever good. movie reviewers still generally give relatively good review scores. the problem is that they force political agenda  with their reviews. we don't get that many action movies anymore.

I genuinely liked Ratchet & Clank, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil, and more ironically like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Double Dragon & Super Mario Bros.

Hard telling if we'll ever get a legitimately good movie based on a video game. Can't stand most of the live action attempts, even the semi-recent ones like Prince of Persia & Assassins Creed.
