Forums - Movies & TV - Tomb Raider (2018) reviews and Box Office- 48 Metacritic, 50% Rotten Tomatoes, $211m

Wooow. What a shit list. Mortal Kombat is the gold standard? Haa! I liked it 20+ years ago, but partial revisitations on TV over the years have left me raising an eyebrow as to how I liked it as much as I did.

Why the hell didn't they make a game based on the story of the 2013 game? Make Lara fragile, still finding her strength and having to face the dangers of a remote island. That would be such a better script.

This one is mostly based on the 2013 game, but it also contains elements from Rise of the Tomb Raider.

It's more of an action movie though. It should be much more dramatic and focus on the evolution of Lara as a character.

I plan on seeing it, but then I enjoyed the old ones when I was younger so have a soft spot for Lara.

The movie just looks so bad. I'd feel bad even if I rented it from redbox.

To be fair, movie critics are harsh judges, many of these movies got significantly better user reviews than critic reviews. But yeah, we haven't seen a truly great video game based movie yet. But, with over 20 more video games based movies and tv shows in development right now, we're bound to finally get a great one at some point.

I suppose so. I probably agree with critics and aggregate scores more often than I disagree with them when it comes to movies, but of all those movies listed, most looked unappealing to me, to the point I've only watched 4 of them: Mortal Kombat,  Mortal Kombat: Annihilation ( oh my god ), Resident Evil, and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. I haven't seen Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within since it came out on DVD in....2002?, but I did enjoy it. At the very least, it was a technical marvel. Been a long time since I've seen a video game movie. Hope we get that great one though.

- Since it's soooo important to be accurate, I did see the Street Fighter movie in the theater, but was just counting from the list.

Mortal Kombat has first and last place in the list! :D

Although I’m sure Super Mario Bros would give it a run for its money.

On a side note, I think it’s amazing that the Resident Evil movies got almost progressively BETTER scores for each sequel. I can’t understand how Apocalypse and the original are lower than any of them though.
