Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Prediction: Kirby Star Allies will flop hard.

Gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed in this. What's here is fun (and the final boss is one of Kirby's best), but the game is really short, even by the standards of the series, with less replay since the collectibles are not all that well hidden. Unless you're really gonna take advantage of the multiplayer feature (like if you have kids to play with) it's just not worth 60 bucks since other cheaper Kirby games (like Robobot) are better.

I wouldn't say I'm dissapointed since I really had fun with it, but I think it's a mid-tier Kirby game. Every Kirby game is fun, but there're games like Robobot which were outstanding, and this is just pretty good imho.

I still have to try the MP side of it to see if the true potential lies in there. I really don't regret paying 60 bucks though, since it was pretty much what I've expected.

As you mentioned, Robobot was a lot better, and cost less.  So, it's definitely disappointing to pay more for something not as good.  Definitely could've been more content here.

Actually, people pointed out that this game lasted just as long as Kirby Return to Dreamland (Adventures Wii in Europe) for most playthrough.

And in terms of replay, collectibles are probably the least important part of this game. With all the characters you can befriend and combinations that you can think of, there's certainly replay value to be find.

Heck, you can do a solo Kirby run if you want to see how it goes without the friends mechanic.

Well, sure, I can play pretty much any game I like enough in a different way, but that's not really replay value.  That's just... liking the game.  Replay value is something the developers specifically put into the game to encourage people to play more.  An extra mode, collectibles, etc.  I'm looking forward to the dream characters at least.

Pretty sure I spent a lot more time on Return to Dreamland which I actually played fairly recently.

Well, I'm fine with 60 but then I'm a big Kirby fan so not really fair :P

And I think if you are big in to co-op it's more worth it.

But I think 40 is a bit low.  50 is I think kinda the sweet spot cause I'm really enjoying what I've played and the production values are there, the game looks gorgeous.

Oh it is beautiful, no doubt about it, the lighting and colours are sublime. But it's not the kind of game that would've cost a whole lot to make. $50 probably is a more realistic option on second thoughts, I just think $60 is a tad steep.

The graphics yeah but also the pre rendered cutscenes.  It's honestly funny that *Kirby* of all franchises has recently had some of the most beautiful cutscenes vissually of any Nintendo game xD

Well, there's a self-imposed component into the equation of course. I mean I wouldn't have replayed Planet Robobot and Triple Deluxe otherwise :P

P.S: I've got into the last world and OMG. It's even more apparent why this game has fewer worlds than any Kirby games ... (won't say why though, because spoilers)

I get why.  But I don't think it was a good choice.  I think the way they organized it actually makes the game feel shorter than it actually was.

*Potential spoilers*

When I was playing through the last world, I expected there to be something else afterwards.  I think that's part of the disappointment.  I think if I knew the way they were structuring it in advance, I would have been more ok with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Star Allies sells over 2 million frankly.

I don't think Metacritic matters so much to the target audience, and it's the first proper HD Kirby game, and it's on a system where multiple franchises are selling far better than they usually do.

Charted very well at number two in the UK. Fastest selling boxed Kirby game there too.

We got news in the UK.......... and its not what you expect.

Pocky Lover Boy!

This thread didn't last a single sales chart. What a flop. Looks like my prediction is correct.

Well. That turned out to be wrong very quickly.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

OP already backpedaled, but yeah it was silly to say to begin with.

Going back to how long the game last for a second, the puzzle pictures don't actually count towards the percentage, and you'll reach 100% well before completing all the pictures, so if you want to finish them it'll require quite a bit more playtime.
