So, I'd say attempting to flee would mean choosing to be killed.

Probably kill. Look at Germany in WW2, i cant beleive all those soldiers enjoyed shooting people in the back of the head. Also see British Firing squads on supposed deserters during WW1, they all choose kill....
I don't want to live a long life just a healthy and good one so if there's any way to go I would much rather go fighting for my own life than being a murderer. That is I wouldn't just take option 2 but rather do anything other than killing innocents to get out alive with the innocent person even though if I die I die. Now if instead of me my family's life was in danger. I don't know what I would do
