Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I want MarioKart to become into "nintendo kart"

I can't see them changing the name, as the Mario Kart brand is just too strong...
But I think guest characters are definitely going to be a thing moving forward...
It would be great if they mixed it up with each new installment instead of seeing the same old faces...
And I'd love to see some more obscure Mario characters in place of babies and Koopalings...
I want Donkey Kong Jr. back and Plum from Mario Golf 64...

Have a nice day...

Just Mario Kart, for me.
The extra stuff could be saved for DLC.

We already have a game that takes characters from various Nintendo franchises.

the baby characters and koopalings are pretty much the only characters my kids use. Im pretty sure plenty of other kids use those characters.

Ninty Kart. Amirite.

Wait!

Did you just claim there is no skill involved in MK?

Have we played the same game?

I think it was hyperbole, and he was suggesting that Mario Kart has a lot more random elements become decisive factors.
Being more skillful than another player can give you an edge in MK as well of course. But it can also commonly amount to nothing.
If I lose in a race against other players in say Gran Turismo, if everyone understand the game properly, 99% of the time I lost because I was outplayed. Someone randomly getting a Lightning bolt instead of a green shell at the last stretch doesn't become a deciding factor in that game, and as far as I can recall, there aren't things like that in F-Zero either. There are speed boosters placed on the ground, and regenerative fields, but I don't recall there being many (any?) random factors involved in the ones I played.

But there is only one factor that is random in MK and thats the lightning bolt. All other things you can avoid (including blue shells).

I also hate to go there but in all IRL sports random elements tend to be the deciding factors.

They needed the baby characters to have enought light weight characters. But Diddy Kong and Kirby would have been a better choice, I have to admit.

Honestly after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and it's DLC's I think we are reaching a point where it will basically eventually be Nintendo Kart in everything except the name, I think the brand name Mario Kart is too big for Nintendo to want to change it.

Like you mentioned, just look at all the new racers and tracks in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. We're seeing so many more non-Mario Nintendo IP's be used in them whether it comes to track based on certain franchises or racers.

Racers - Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Inkling, Villager, and Isabelle.

Tracks- Mario, F-Zero, Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Excitebike, Splatoon, etc.

I think it will still be mostly Mario characters and tracks probably making up the majority, but I won't be surprised if characters like Link, Villager, etc become a staple in the Mario Kart games from this point forward, maybe even expanding to include more like Kirby.
