...wait,are we back to use the Vgchartz numbers? I thought we were going after the official numbers.

If you're signed up and have over 200 posts on VGC in ~3 months, you should be happy to use VGC numbers

No I mean,it is because he at first seemed to dismiss using Vgchartz as a source to compare because of the lack of digital numbers and then went back and used Vgchartz as a source,so I got confused for a second.

Wait, I'm confused here. Doesn't Amazon have Smash Bros listed for Dec, 31st?

As for the question..  well, I'll go with either RDR2, BO4 or Fifa 19.  But it is going to depend on the time of release (alias how many weeks of the year counted).

Labo is a wildcard. Could be nothing, could be the new Wii Fit. And since this is just about 2018 this also rules out anything that's not super-frontloaded so that leaves Call of Duty, Battlefield and Fifa. Maybe Pokemon, but I'd say it's not frontloaded enough to win this. Smash definitely isn't and neither is Red Dead Redemption. Lifetime would be a more difficult story, then those last three could have a decent chance.

For 2018 I'd go with the safest bet; Call of Duty. It seemed to have saved itself from decline, and Battlefield never really got close. Leaves Fifa as it's only contender.

Ever hear of a placeholder?

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Are Smash or even Pokemon as front-loaded as COD? Maybe just bias, but I feeel like Nintendo games usually rely more on long tail...see the current chartz with Mario Kart8D, Splatoon 2 and Zelda BOW in the top 10 in Jan.

In other words, COD.

I'd say either Pokémon or RDR2

voted for Black Ops. It is either a COD or Fifa game.

I'm scared to know the numbers if they drop Pokemon this year, thats doubtful, but if it does happen then no game stands a chance against it

COD is the safe bet.

An outside chance of it being FIFA 19, but that probably requires COD to do uncharacteristically bad.

RDR2 is the dark horse. Not one of the real favourites, but still has a chance of pulling it off. Depends whether it`s sales are similar to the previous RDR game, or whether the success of GTAV can give it a good boost.

This is exactly my thinking.  To be frank, I don't understand how anyone could take any other position.  We have a decade of past sales data that leads us to this.

In 2017 CoD WWII sold 16.89m Physical Only, including digital+PC we could put that number at around 19-20.5m

S&M managed to ship+digital 16.05m in it's release year, which probably equates to a sell-through of ~14-15m, Pokemon on Switch could match that with half the install base which would be a great achievement, but reaching 19m+ sell-through and outselling CoD is a big stretch. So rather than not standing a chance, odds are in favour of CoD.

Though that's not to say it doesn't have a chance of beating the odds, pokemon could certainly take it.
