Forums - Nintendo Discussion - RUMOUR: Pokémon switch to be a reboot of the franchise

I really hope they don't limit the amount of Pokémon too much, since that would mean we'd only get the usual bunch of overhyped Pokémon (mostly from gen 1).

People said the same about Monster Hunter guess what they were all wrong.

The new Monster Hunter isnt that different. If Monster Hunter changed into a first person skyrim style youd have a point.

It is different I've played the series since the original PS2 game, how you track monsters was overhauled, the layout of maps was overhauled, the dynamic of hunts has changed and a number of features have been changed or overhauled. Some of you should learn that an overhaul or a reboot doesn't mean the basic template being changed.

A reboot as in a revisiting of Kanto/Johto with an entirely new (not dumbed down Gen VI/VII) approach and story, and a big variety of Pokemon available would have me very interested. If they had it based, say 20-30 years after RGBY/GSC then it would allow for a huge amount of change in the region, and could make revisiting the region a lot more enticing.

Also, leave the fucking battle system alone. I love my turn-based RPGs and Pokemon is practically the only active major one Nintendo has left (apart from FE), I'll murder someone if they go Action RPG for this

I personally wouldn't mind a reboot at all as it would be the first Pokemon game to actually be made for home console feature.

I’d be down for this, as long it’s not a straight remake of Red/ Blue. A single adventure, kind of similar to Yellow, but with good story telling and writing, would be pretty sick.

Every sequel to a game series could be considered a reboot then. That would make the term pretty moot, so I can't agree with that.

The last one i have played was gold/silver. I would be pretty hyped for a reboot but with all the new pkmns and full 3d Environments and it would bring me back to the series. Its been a long time. 20 years to be exact.

I know that's what the comment is referring to. The point I'm making is that competitive battling isn't something most people do, and the reason for that is because the games do nothing to promote or encourage that. It's an extremely niche path by design, so the original commenter being "baffled" that "most people" aren't aware of the battle system's depth is senseless.

There's actually a quite large competitive pokemon battling scene.

Yeah, “large” as in a few thousand. It’s niche. Pokémon sells millions. Only a fraction of a percent even know there is a competitive battle even to begin with. I’m part of that scene. You don’t have to talk like I’m out of the loop.

It shouldn't. The games do absolutely nothing to promote that depth. You've never been forced to do one complex thing in and campaign Pokemon battle since the first games 20+ years ago, so how would "most people" find that out?

Smash does the same, but you don’t hear people babbling about changing the battle system.

It’s like everyone holds a grudge against turn-based combat (especially so-called critics) while it offers the most depth and requires actual thinking.

My comment was only concerning you being baffled.

There may be only a few tens of thousands of people who go to actual tournaments and stuff like that, but the 'semi-competitive' scene (people who train their Pokémons for online battles, but who aren't on the official ranking) is definitely huge.

I highly doubt that a lot of Pokémon fans would want the battle system to change dramastically. And with 'fans' I don't mean these few thousands of people, but the millions of people who are into the franchise.
