I see the letters 're' and feel a cold ominous breeze rip across my senses from all angles. I think in the case of the very first mainline Pokemon home console game, it's better to NOT fix what isn't broken.

It's not broken when it comes to a different kind of platform but for a console level platform it's very much not the same case, some changes have to be made regardless of being a reboot or not.

Yup. Better sound, better graphics... but that's about it. One look at sales for the recent game tells you that people like it as it is. No need to mess with it imo.

People said the same about Monster Hunter guess what they were all wrong.

I honestly love the turn based combat, it's fairly well balanced, if they wish to overhaul something, I'd rather they do it to the other parts of the game.

I doubt they're going to change the combat too much. They've built on it for 20 years, it's the core of the franchise. There is also a huge competitive scene based on the turn-based combat. Changing this would basically ruin the franchise.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

I was wondering when it'd come to this. The number of Pokemon in the national Pokedex has been getting really high.

So every game has to become hack-and-slash, or action-driven? Castlevania, Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil etc. Thank you, I'd keep the excellently crafted turn-based battle system, and rather them focus on improving other aspects of the game.

Baffles me how most people don't seem to understand how deep the Pokemon battle system actually is.

The source doesn't sound credible at first glance, but who knows. The claim itself is somewhat credible, as having less Pokémon ought to make it much easier to develop the game for significantly more powerful hardware with higher visual requirements. On the other hand, having less Pokémon sounds like a really risky move, which takes away some credibility.

I'd take pokken battles for combat. Seamless from adventuring.

People severely underestimate how impossibly difficult that would be to implement. And by impossibly difficult, I mean unprecedented in all of gaming. And impossible.

Imagine being that game designer. Nearly 1000 unique playable characters (when from changes are accounted for) with different body types using nearly 1000 unique attack moves with different complex properties. Never been done before. Program and balance that. In 5 years or less, please. While you're at it, go ahead and program a vast open world with complex routes, towns, and cities as well, of which the latter needs at least 8.

I only say this because I used to be like you. Then I thought about what I was asking for.

I'd argue that at this point, Pokemon has become so stale that it IS broken.

I just don't think GF are talented enough to fix it.

It shouldn't. The games do absolutely nothing to promote that depth. You've never been forced to do one complex thing in and campaign Pokemon battle since the first games 20+ years ago, so how would "most people" find that out?
