Forums - Nintendo Discussion - RUMOUR: Pokémon switch to be a reboot of the franchise

https://www.gamnesia.com/news/rumor-the-new-pokemon-game-on-nintendo-switch-will-reboot-the-franchise

According to a user on Twitter, a Pokémon leaker called Chinese Riddler has stated that the upcoming Pokémon game on Switch will be a reboot for the franchise.

The leaker was previously correct about a ton of leaked information about the Generation VII Pokémongames (Sun and Moon), lending some credence to the supposed leak.

Interesting rumour as its from the guy who leaked the SuMo pokedex, I'm still not buying it as a reboot theory is always around when a new gen is announced.

It makes sense. If it succeeds it will reach a new audience, but if it fails they can simply go back to their roots and pretend it was just an adventure.

I also love turn based RPGs, but come on... with the hardware at hand, making it at least something more interactive allows for interesting and fresh gameplay, not to mention it would appeal to kids much more. Imagine a kid buying a Pomémon and actually performing a flame thrower instead of just calmly pressing a button and watching an animation (that’s certainly anticlimactic for any child).

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

A vast fully fledged new Pokémon Adventure would be dope.

But I'd play the hell out of a Pokémon Red/Blue/Green/Yellow Remake as well, if that's what this "reboot" means.

Edit: No matter what, I hope battling keeps being turn based or at least keeps being included as an option.

I see the letters 're' and feel a cold ominous breeze rip across my senses from all angles. I think in the case of the very first mainline Pokemon home console game, it's better to NOT fix what isn't broken.

I'd rather have them improving on the concept than changing to much about it.

I guess you would have to make some sacrifices. What partly makes the turn based RPG elements attractive is the competitive side of things. You probably have seen the Pokémon World Championships. Kids and adults alike would have to adapt to an entirely new gameplay style AND meta game.

not saying change is a bad thing, but the team would have to take good consideration when it comes to competitive side of play.

what I've been wishing for all along, the new Pokemon needs a kind of BoTW upgrade on a Red/Blue/Yellow open-world remake with heavy online elements, one can dream :P

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

And what does he mean by that?

It's not broken when it comes to a different kind of platform but for a console level platform it's very much not the same case, some changes have to be made regardless of being a reboot or not.

I honestly love the turn based combat, it's fairly well balanced, if they wish to overhaul something, I'd rather they do it to the other parts of the game.
