As I looked on Amazon and tried to decide which game I preorder from the announced stuff in the last Direct, I realized something: Southpark releases already in six weeks! That's incredible. The original release on the other platforms was announced more than two years before it released. The Switch-version is not even announced two months before release. And it's not alone. Barely any game is announced more than a year before release. That is incredible.

What a big difference to WiiU, which announced early on XCX or Toky Mirage Sessions.

It's not unusual that ports have very short announcement windows on any other platform.

Nothing to write home about.

Some ports aren't even announced at all, f.e. the stealth release of Bayonetta on PC last year.

Last I checked, Nintendo and EA are good with releasing shortly after announcement. Sony and Microsoft have a harder time with it...

It's not just third party games, lol. All games Nintendo announced in January are coming until June, for example.

I like to plan my purchases with time, but I don't want to wait years for a game. A 3-4 month announcement is fine, maybe something lenghtier for the heavy hitters.

Yeah, this is what I love about Nintendo about the Switch (and also bethesda). Don't announce games until you're within a year of release.

Smash bros is coming in 6 months. Odyssey took 10 months. Splatoon took 6 months. Mario Tennis will take 5 months. Kirby took 9 months. Almost everything is within one year. Pokemon only got announced so early because of the US/UM backlash, or else it would be within a year too.

For comparison, if sony or square enix announced smash, good luck waiting for 4+ years.

Honestly, I like a mix.
I generally don’t like long waits, but at the same time I love having something huge to look forward to down the road. Although, maybe 3-3.5 years maximum wait. I hate the ridiculous 5-7+ year waits for certain Square games.

Breath of the Wild is a good example of a game I enjoyed waiting for, and having the different events leading up to it. E3 2016 was a lot of fun, and it didn’t feel too long until I got to play the game after.

give me a month or so after the announcement to process it. after that, its just playing the waiting game, and i hate huge waiting periods.

although Smash Bros kinda reworked that a bit. since im really anticipating character reveals more than anything else, i can wait for the game for forever, just make sure there is a steady supply of new reveals building up to the launch

I like knowing whats comeing in advance.
