Forums - Sony Discussion - UPDATE: RUMOR: PS5 Dev Kits Sent Out This Year. Launch 2019. BC With PS1/PS2/PS3. Sony acquires Silent Hill. Blade Runner PS5 Game At PSX. And More.

I don't doubt PS5 is coming in the next 2 years.

Take a look at the twitter of Capcom and Sega visiting MS. What does it mean? Early dev kits.
Next Gen is coming. Sony is just waiting for MS to announce their box.
This could be a great E3.

This rumour is false, several things gave it away. Like Sony mandating 60 fps and they going with a completely new hardware architecture.

But we already got some insider information about ps5 from a dude named Matt, he's a verified insider on resetera and he made several posts about ps5 on resetera and neogaf before that site went down the tubes. I'll give a summary what he has said. Matt was deliberately vague about his ps5 posts so this is just how I interpreted it.

It will NOT have a Jaguar cpu (this likely means a ryzen cpu)

Expect a 10-12 TF gpu (this doesn't mean we might get slightly lower or higher TF)

16-20 GB of ram (this must either mean 16 gb of Gddr 6 OR 16 gb Gddr6 + some ddr ram)

It will be fully backwards compatible with ps4 and the ps4 games will see improvements.

499$ launch price is possible.

2019-2020 release date (sounded like 2019 to me)

Now we might not believe the insider information we got but insider information was proven correct on november NDP where an insider said ps4 will win and it happen, same thing about dec NDP and Jan NDP. I was hoping for a Zen cpu + nvidia gpu for ps5 but gave up on that idea after I saw this insider information.

6x master league achiever in starcraft2

Beaten Sigrun on God of war mode

Beaten DOOM ultra-nightmare with NO endless ammo-rune, 2x super shotgun and no decoys on ps4 pro.

1-0 against Grubby in Wc3 frozen throne ladder!!

I don't see it happening unless it's another incremental upgrade or MS is planning something even bigger, which wouldn't surprise me as I'm pretty sure they'd like to move on to the next gen ASAP.

Edit: in that case they would have to, at least hint it, during this year's E3.

Any sooner than Holiday 2020 and it's too soon. I hope this leak is bullshit.

The PS5 would cut off the sales of the PS4. It would still have legs, no doubt, but why bother when you can just wait until the sales slow down by themselves, then release the PS5? A PS5 launch too early would mean a lot of potential sales lost.

Because you're not an asshole bent on holding back progress at all costs? Sometimes I like to hope good things.

Why would it lose them sales? I don't get that part. It would lose them sales on PS4 Pro and PS4 but those will go directly to the PS5, in addition to all the double dippers.

Why would you buy a console that's outdated in just three years? The lifespam of consoles should last as long as possible, to to make the most out of the existing hardware and to show a decent jump in technology instead of a small upgrade when the next generation comes out.

And sales-wise, Sony would want to sell the PS4 to as many people as they possibly can before moving on, to maximize profits.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I can deal with the Q1 launch because that would give the console 3 strong sales points (launch, Black Friday and X-mas) during the first year, but not the 2019.

Also, to be fully compatible with PS4 games, it needs to be full AMD, both CPU and GPU, and while the CPU side looks good with maybe an 8-core Zen+ unit, the GPU side doesn't look very good, with Vega 56 and 64 (10.5 and 12.5 TFlops each) using way more than 200W of power. Sure, if they're ported to the newer 12nm process they'll use less power, but we're still looking at 170-180W, and then add the CPU, RAM, etc on the mix and we end with a 250W or more box.

Nah, I think they'll wait until 2020, when they'll be able to use the superior 7nm process.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

It would be a very stupid move from Sony if true:
1) It will mean that a lot of games they announced for PS4 will be PS5 games because they won't release before PS5.
2) It will give their rival MS a nice opportunity to just make Xbox One X a cheap next gen console which will compete with PS5 because there is no chance that Sony will be able to make PS5 significantly more powerful and at decent price with early 2019 release

I think Capcom and Sega visits are not about next-gen consoles dev kits but about some game contracts agreements.

With sales still growing YOY this smells like BS.
