Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can Monster Hunter World see a Switch release?

Can they make it happen?

Yes 15 27.27%

No 27 49.09%

Maybe 13 23.64%

A Monster Hunter World port on Switch would be, for all intents and purposes, pretty terrible. I really can't tell if they'll just do a port, or an .... ehmm ... """"exclusive"""" from the 2nd hand team.

Monster Hunter 4 ultimate for 3ds is a mainline Monster Hunter title right ? Just Do another Monster Hunter . Specifically MH5 that can do a better job at framerate since I heard Monster Hunter world on PS4 and Xbox One have trouble trying to hit a stable 30 frames per second .

Monster Hunter World IS mainline. It's made by the same team that made 4U. Which is why it's such a good game, honestly Monster Hunter's 2nd team is no where near as talented....

Maybe with MH4 graphics. MHW is barely running 30fps on standard home consoles and not more than 45fps on the X and Pro.

At the end of the day there is no concrete proof so it comes down to wether you believe the leak or not, and in my case considering how many things in the leak ended up being true im willing to believe it, and i do think they consider Nintendos handhelds (the previous platform for MH) a strong competitor, especially in Japan so it comes to no surprise that they went the extra mile and signed a exclusivity deal for MHW in that country.

We have the developers themselves saying that the game started development long before the Switch was announced. I call that a proof.

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/heres-why-monster-hunter-world-isnt-coming-to-nint/1100-6456275/

Not really, they wanted to keep it off of Nintendo regardless if it was the Wii U, 3DS or whatever platform they put out on the future.

The leak said it excluded Nintendo but never specified any platforms so its talking about Nintendo as a whole, when you think about what that means... they didnt wanted any sort of port to any Ninty stystem not even a smaller variant of the game on the 3Ds like what Nino Kuni and Dragon Quest did, and obviously that would include any new Ninty console (like the Switch).

And that is probably because they wanted that japanese market for themselves which is pretty obvious when you see that they have an exclusivity contract for japan, and thats considering that the only other console that has the game is the Xbox One... let that sink in... they have a contract to exclude the X1 from the Japanese market of MHW, a console that present no threat to them in that country and they still went the extra mile to exclude it with a contract.

Anyways practically everything in the leak became true and the only thing we cant be 100% sure about is the whole "excluding Nintendo thing" since we have no way to prove it, so at the end of the day the only thing we can do is wait and see if it ever comes out on the Switch.

By lead platform, do you mean strongest?

Because if so, that'd be Xbox One X.

Lead platform = the platform it was designed around primarily. They expect the majority of sales to come from standard PS4 owners.

I kind of figured it might be that, but I wanted to make sure.

Monster Hunter World is Monster Hunter 5.

And sales numbers have shown there is much more interest in 1080p@30fps than there is 240@60fps.

Technically it's very possible. There will be frame dips, and docked, it won't go higher than 900p or even 720 but it has all the modern APIs to run a game like MHW, and that's why developers can come out and say something like this. The RAM that devs are able to utilize on PS4 is around 2GB more than what devs have to work with on Switch so sacrifices can be made for the game to run at an acceptable level.

Capcom ain't gonna do it, they love excuses and cutting corners in business. So give it to someone else.

I don't know about 900p. Hell, I don't know about 700p.
Doom, that ran at 1080p and locked 60fps on PS4, runs at around 576p-600p @30fps (with frame pacing issues) while docked on Switch. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-dooms-impossible-switch-port-analysed
And Monster Hunter World struggles to run at 30fps even on it's lead platform, PS4. Without the ability to cut the framerate in half here (because it's already 28-32f on PS4), there will probably need to be a lot of visual sacrifices made. Possibly more than for Doom.

Not really, Doom runs at an average 638p-720p while docked since the new patch

No. I would've expected a port if MHW was a flop, but it has sold gangbusters. They are probably satisfied with those sales for now. They may port XX to the Switch (with Nintendo paying for the publishing costs), but they won't try to downgrade MHW until those sales start to drop.

They already ported XX on the Switch

I'd rather have a new Monster Hunter game that's more like MH4. World doesn't really look like it would be my cup of tea, and it also wouldn't fit on a Nintendo system.

The NS likely can't handle a downgraded version of it.
