you just called it an observation in a response to someone else and that is all it amounts to

without proper data on the games' average sales price there is no basis to call your interpretation of that observation "fact" or treat it as one

June (Right during E3) :

http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2017/06/13/horizon-zero-dawn-frozen-wilds-costs-20-playstation-plus-members-save-25-pre-ordering/

https://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2017-06/videogames#1

Got a tremendous boost in relation to the heavy price cut to 20$

https://www.neogaf.com/threads/npd-sales-results-for-june-2017.1408987/

The game maintained itself/or did better during that month instead of progressively decreasing. Price point during E3 had obvious impact on it's performance

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/07/07/playstation-store-junes-top-downloads-2/

- Got a 20$ cut-off during that month.

- Wasn't even  Top 20 in May charts

November :

https://www.gamesradar.com/horizon-zero-dawn-is-only-20-on-amazon-just-in-time-for-the-frozen-wilds-dlc/

Ranked #21 in the Amazon monthly chart, even during a buzy period with other major titles.

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/12/07/playstation-store-novembers-top-downloads-2/

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/11/17/black-friday-comes-early-for-ps-plus-members/

#3 in the charts. Coincide with the DLC Frozen Wilds arrival and flash sales on the PSN.

...

So, now my basis is there. Care to deny my statement ?

Wow.......

Ok, so the gsme like evrery other game before it got price cuts. But unlike most games it has managed to sell very well almost hitting 8M in a year.

Its a new IP.

Its on one platform.

It had a dev cost of about $50M. Its probably made well over $300M.

Can we move on?

Amazing sales for a new IP, good to see Sony getting rewarded for attempting new things instead of just only doing safe old IPs, i definitely hope Ghost of Tsushima ends up being their next big hit, and while im not a huge fan of zombie games i hope the same for Days Gone.

Thats kinda sony's MO..... more so than any other first party publisher.

I do know that and its the reason why i like them the most, since i am someone who quickly gets tired of franchises and wants to move on the next new thing, and Sony has been really good at delivering at least 3 full new IPs per generation  that i end up loving, for example this gen i got Bloodborne and Horizon and last gen it was DeS, Uncharted and TLOU.

Thats not to say that i love every game they put out, its just that they do so MUCH that eventually i end up finding something that i am truly hyped about, just look at how many games they put out last gen and this gen that i didnt even mention, and thats not to say that i think games like Little Big Planet, Infamous, Resistance, Drive Club, The Order 1886, etc. are bad games but they just dont interest me, but i still appreciate that they make those games because i know a lot of other people will be hyped about them.

Well deserved the games graphics alone are a marvel but overall it just felt balanced like jack of all trades master of none but in a good way.

I'm quite impressed, to be honest. That's an awfully big number for a brand new IP that stars a non-sexualized female protagonist, and without leaning on multi-player.

As far as it being remembered as the game that was overshadowed by BotW, that sounds like the perspective of someone who wants that to be the case. Is The Shawshank Redemption remembered as the film that was overshadowed by Forest Gump? No, it's simply remembered as a damn good movie.

Looks like Aloy is getting some much deserved praise.

This debate of just why Horizon is doing good has run its course. Neither side will reach common ground and it's clear that games see bundles/price-cuts/sales throughout their lives. It's not exclusive to this game.

So, you folks need to move on!

It's the age old argument.

If this thread turns into a Horizon vs Breath of the Wild dick measuring contest I'm gonna ban the lot of you.

I hope this wasnt aimed at me

Probably the ton of Nintendo fans. But does it matter?

Yes because its all ninty fans. Im talking overall. The game was compared side by side for many reasons. No games did bad. Both did exceptionally well. hDZ a new ip that is exclusive could sell 10mil lifetime. Even if it stops now only a very select few ips done this feat. No downplaying calm down

In that case I'd have to question whether those people know what "overshadowed" means.

Now Battleborn is a game that is known as being overshadowed (by Overwatch). Horizon though, achieved great critical and commercial success. There's no overshadowing whatsoever there, unless your argument is that it would have sold 15m+ by now if not for Zelda?

I get your point. Overshadow is such a strong word, its just HDZ if released maybe at a different time wouldnt be compared to as much as BotW.

There have been any Sony fan saying HZD was overshadowed by Zelda?

And funny enough you acknowledge it on the same post that the overshadowing was out of place, and guess who would be the ton of people that would use it? Yep, Nintendo fans.

10m lifetime might not be out of reach for it... that would be nuts for a new IP, thats exclusive to 1platform.

If people are saying that, they shouldn't.

Adding together all the first-party exclusives that have sold over 1m (according to vgc) brings the totals to the following:

PS3: 106.92m (from 34 games)  (AVG Per Game: 3.14m)

PS4: 59.11m (from 19 games)    (AVG Per Game: 3.11m)

So PS4 is already at over half the amount of exclusive title sales the PS3 sold, and the per game average is almost as high, which will obviously increase with time.
