Carbon Dioxide Fertilization Greening Earth, Study Finds

From a quarter to half of Earth’s vegetated lands has shown significant greening over the last 35 years largely due to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, according to a new study published in the journal Nature Climate Change on April 25.

The greening represents an increase in leaves on plants and trees equivalent in area to two times the continental United States.

Results showed that carbon dioxide fertilization explains 70 percent of the greening effect, said co-author Ranga Myneni, a professor in the Department of Earth and Environment at Boston University. “The second most important driver is nitrogen, at 9 percent. So we see what an outsized role CO2 plays in this process.

How CO2 affects plants:

He pretty much explains why earth is a long way from runaway greenhouse warming like Venus is and also explains the benefit that CO2 emissions bring in such as higher crop yields so I guess ~1000 ppm of CO2 is ideal for plant life ... (need to at least double the CO2 concentration)

So. Rising sea levels and warming temperatures is just a draw back but actually helps sustain more plant life?

Guess we can't have em all.

Um am I missing something here? I feel it is common sense that the plants are reaping the benefits of a warming planet. But what about animals?

Would this be an inconvenient truth for Al Gore?

Obviously the grass will be greener in the other side of the horizon. Therefore, it can support life granted another life form is there to make use of it.

No, this actually supports what he has been saying

Al Gore has done nothing but spread bullshit propaganda about the affects of global warming, one of the biggest danger to his own cause. The less people hear from that moron the better.

More plants = Bigger crops = More food

There's lot's of things we can do with the arable lands that get opened up in Canada and Russia ... (most people don't see the weather in these countries as desirable)
