Forums - Gaming Discussion - I'm excited for metal gear survive!

So I was reading the review thread on resetera and im now hyped for metal gear survive. It seems to be a fun game after all. A 7/10 in terms of quality. Only costs €40 but its now on my radar and I'll likely get this off psn when its €15 or €20.

Comment from risev on resetera.

"I'm about 17 hours in and it's actually quite good. Someone said the game is 15-20 hours long a few days ago and I don't think that's anywhere near the truth. Looking at the trophy list for the main missions, I'm not sure I'm even half-way through yet. The marketing for this game has been so weird. It made it out to be a co-op game with a tacked-on singleplayer, but it's very much the opposite. It's a single-player game through and through, and I've only unlocked the 2nd co-op mission after 15 hours of play.

Without spoiling anything, let's just say that the "enemy" design in this game is spectacular and extends far beyond the generic zombies that we've seen in the trailers. Base management is also more interesting enjoyable compared to Phantom Pain as you continuously engage in and benefit from things happening in your base. Also, believe it or not, this game has far more large interior locations compared to Phantom Pain, which is a big plus to me since Phantom Pain barely had anything but open spaces past the prologue.

Don't get me wrong, Phantom Pain's opening 15-30 hours are still much better compared to Survive, but Phantom Pain is one of my favorite games of the past decade, and Survive is $20 less."

Well, knowing Konami, I never was, but hey, they managed to get even  worse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQobz5ojsJs

10$ for a save slot

And lootboxes, and always online in an offline game

How could anybody even be excited for a game where you gotta pay for ADITIONNAL SAVE SLOTS ?!

Do you imagine how much money they would make if they did the same with RPG's ?!

Pokemon makes a killing.
Don't knock it 'till you try it.

Except, unlike Konami, Pokemon has a perfectly valid reason for locking you out of additional saves: so you can't farm unlimited one-time capture Pokemon and trade them to yourself via a third party.

Locking out of saves to prevent cheating =/= making you pay for additional saves with unique characters.

Oh, and about those "reviews":

No surprise really, it's modern day Konami, the KINGS of fucking up.

I only need 1 slot and if you just login for 30 days you get enough credits for a new slot. Big deal.

1) Cite me these games.

2) I know MMO's that doesn't, I'll give you small list of those if you want.

3) It is no excuse to set this up into RPG's that are single player experience first and foremost.

I'm at work so I'll do a proper reply when I'm at home, but the first game to come to mind is World of Warcraft, and people actually WANT the ability to buy new character slots in Final Fantasy XIV, but I've not played in over a year so it might actually be a thing now.

Except those games give you the option of creating a new character free of charge if you want, Metal Gear Survive doesn't.

  • WoW gives you up to 16 character slots per server for free.
  • ESO gives you 8 free character slots.
  • FFXIV only charges for additional characters on the same server, you can create as many characters as there are servers without paying extra and you can play all classes on one character.

So no, not the same thing at all.

Even if those "other games" did do precisely what MGS does:

1)Other companies conducting shady business practices doesn't make it okay.
2)Like Mar1217 said, it doesn't excuse putting this in RPGs that are all about the single-player experience.
3)Konami is no position to pull shit like this after all their scummy business practices, case in point

This game is an insult to the Metal Gear name. It's been tacked on to it to help boost sales but it looks very generic and boring.
