I thought FF was a bigger franchise tbh.

There was a time when these kind of sales were gigantic. Among the best in the business.

Final Fantasy has held very stable in this regard, while other franchises have seen huge growth to match or in many cases surpass that 10 Million milestone. While 10 Million units is seen as a huge goal for many franchises, for Final Fantasy, 8 to 10 Million units should be seen as a standard.

That is Internet gamer imagination. Final Fantasy Xlll did nothing to the series. The Huge achievement is that FF15 is the most drastic evolution of Final Fantasy yet and even through all the hate trains it will outsell every Final Fantasy up to X taking a spot in the top 3 highest selling games in the series. What a achievement.

I think the XIII saga and the obsession with Lightning put a huge downer on the franchise, specifically in the West. It's why Lightning Returns sold as poorly as it did, despite XIII-2 selling somewhat okay and XIII itself doing really well, all things considered.

X sold ~8 Million
XIII sold ~7.5 Million

X-2 sold ~5.3 Million
XIII-2 sold ~3.4 Million

Lightning Returns sold ~1.3 Million

People wanted something fresh and they certainly got that with XV. XIII was stale and held the franchise back on Gen 7.

Carl that is a terrible conclusion. Sequels to mainline Final Fantasy never sell near the original entry. They usually do about half as much. 13 has the honor of having 2 sequels! With the last one coming out AFTER the new generation started. A sequel to a sequel of a mainline game releasing on a last generation coming after the new generation begins is more likely the answer then blaming lighting. Lighting definitely did not leave a good first impression but neither did Squall; Just as unlikely as Lightning and the worst FF protagonist on the PS1 entries and up to that point,  and series went on.

We can agree to disagree on this one.

I'm just very very happy that they moved on from XIII and they're trying new things.

I bet. I very much remember you during the 13 age. Dont let bias overtake logic.

I was more hyped up for XIII than I was for any other game, probably other than MGS4.

Good times.

Did he though? I mean I understand he had 3ish years. But he still lied about a lot and its probably to defend SE. But everything out and coming out should have been in day 1.

that's right but i think that he was really under big pressure, wasn't the best job to finish this game after all this time

Im personally glad SE said to make more dlc. To bad it wasnt added into the game for free but thats why im waiting for next year. It will be all for one and better priced.

Looks like they're gonna eventually leg it out to 10 Million.

Which I think is a huge achievement after what the XIII saga seemingly did to the franchise. Don't fuck up XVI now.

'Seemingly' is fair, but 'supposedly' is a better fit. You see, people said FFXIII was so terrible, it had damaged the franchise irreparably. It obviously did not, because it wasn't terrible at all. The internet is like a downward slope; once you kick the bandwagon, there's no stopping it. All people can do is jump in, or get out of the way.

Edit: Changed is a fair to is fair.

PAR for FF mainlines is anywhere from 5 to 10 million (upper limit). FF7 on PS1 sold almost 10 million, but not quite.    FF9 sold somewhere over 5 million, FF8 around 8 million, FFX about the same.  FFXII somewhere over 6 million.  I'm ballparking some of these.  Too lazy to found the exact amount but they're close.

Lube Me Up

Well, this is honestly very sad.Obviosly this is a personal opinion, but I wanted for the game to have sold less.It wont sell much more than this, given that its already been 1 years give or take, and it was already pretty discounted for a while, as far as I remember. The Windows version could sell more, but I dont think it will.

But what makes me sad is that,m for FF, this game was not good, but most importantly, they released an incomplete game and people still bought it.Hopefully Square fixes things up with XVI and get Tabata awaqy from the FF brand, but given how much they made with the season passes and this "lazy" way to develop the game, I dont think we are going to see FF come back to glory anytime soon.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

It will sell over 10m. Between the PC release and future sales on ps4/xb1 it won't have a problem. Game has been a massive success.
