Forums - NSFW Discussion - What term do you use for the viral/bacterial crudding of genitals?

What term do you use?

VD 2 11.11%

STD 12 66.67%

STI 3 16.67%

pox 0 0%

Social disease 1 5.56%

Sexually communicable disease 0 0%

Total:18

STI is the official medical term. Was changed from STD a while ago bc infection is more accurate than disease.

STD. VD was good for back then.

STD. That's what I learned first, and they are diseases so it's certainly not wrong.

I remember STI was what they tried to bring in because apparently calling them "infections" rather than "diseases" is less "offensive".

Pox sounds like something from the middle ages and I've never even heard of the others before.

So now we have to be PC with diseases to not offend them :) great time we live in /jk

For the last 400 years or so.

While “medical accuracy” is the official reason for changing terminology, it’s not the real reason for the support of it. All terms, in practice, mean the exact same thing. While STI may be more accurate, it still wasn’t the term chosen to replace VD (STD was) - that shows accuracy wasn’t the main motivational factor. The term STI has been around for 30+ years, it was around before STD became the preferred term, but had to wait in line behind it a couple of decades before it got its turn. As soon as it becomes stigmatized enough, there will be support to change it.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Jumpin, are you looking for a woman on VGC again, and trying to weed out undesirables? ;)

I was talking about we not harming the disease feelings =]

I have learn VD and STD (venereal and sexually transmitted) at the same time in school as synonymous so I wasn't inside this change because of stigmatization before you mentioned.

Still have a hard time understanding people trying to change words when what is really important is the intention and meaning... like I don't see any problem calling someone black, niger or African American on the terms itself I see the issue when used to harm that person (and there are a lot of people that use the PC chosen word but mean worse than the ones choosing the words that are forbidden).

There are no woman (in singular, because it would be wrong to expect more than one).
