I thought about posting this in the news, but Emily Rogers is questionable these days and she herself seems like she doesn't really know in the source.

However, if a smash brothers games DOES come out this year, I guarantee you it will not be a sequel but will be an enhanced port (probably combining the features from the 3ds and Wii U games like Hyrule Warriors Def. Edition). New smash games usually have 6-7 year gaps between them, and the last one came out in 2014 (3-4 years ago). There is no WAY the next major one will be ready by the end of this year (4 years).

But this will be HD portable smash on arguably Nintendo's most local multiplayer friendly console due to its portability and power.

...that I already own. I own all of the best Wii U and 3DS games. I don't want ports. I want new games.

Honestly, the chance of a Smash 4 DX not happening is super unlikely, so this 'rumor' is probably true

Rumor or not, I still fully expect a Smash port to happen this year. It feels like a good year to do so, especially when I feel this year isn't particularly strong for Nintendo so far.

If it's a brand new Smash game, it's not coming this year. Brand new Smash games are always revealed years out before release.

Well with combined and reworked content from WiiU and 3DS versions of Smash Bros 4 with addition of new content, Nintendo could easily push this game like Smash Bros 5, on other hand it could easily be called Smash Bros 4 DX also.

I had a feeling they would and if they do it would be a good buisness decision. The creator mention he didn't want to make another Smash. They won't need to if they port it.

They could probably just call it Smash Bros for Switch.  Add whatever content they wanted to, and let fanboys on forums argue about whether it's a sequel or a port while they count their money.
