But its also a genre that hasn't really gotten that much traction in Japan compared to the rest of the world. You don't see games like CoD, Battlefield, etc. stay for months on the Japanese charts.

If those were portable franchise you might see much legs. Japan market is biased towards portable devices.

Except the original Splatoon was able to show incredible legs on a, as you want to describe, traditional home console. It was a new online multiplayer IP so those factors should have given the original game a significant disadvantage. Not to mention being on the Wii U, a struggling console. Portable or not, Splatoon has evolved into the console online multiplayer game in Japan.

Splatoon did great. But this thread is about facts and milestones. There was a time when people thought ps4 wouldnt outsell wii u. They were wrong. There was a time when people thought a ps4 game would never outsell splatoon or even over 2m. They were wrong again.

Ps4 won these battles. Its as simple as that.

as expected switch demand is dropping.

Way too early to say that considering the Switch still has some supply issues in Japan despite the issue not being as bad as in the past.

It's going to be difficult for the Switch to hit 20 million next fiscal year with a 40-50k weekly average in Japan. I believe that's roughly 2-2.5 million for a year in one of its strongest regions. Hope it has some big plans for the second half of 2018 to be able to reach such a bold goal.

The next fiscal year begins on April 1 and there are still games to be announced. Relax.

Yeah, and actually next FY for Switch will start quite strong with Labo launch in April. :)

Definelly it is falling off a cliff.

Yeah, it doesnt matter that Switch from start of year to 18. February already sold 400k Switch units without any bigger release, and won January month in US, its obvious that sales are falling off a cliff. :D

This is the last week ps4 is going to see these numbers.

I mean, will it? I have no doubts that the Labos will sell. But how many people are going to buy a Switch for the Labos, instead of buying a Labos for the Switch? It seems like a great family tool for people that already have the system. But I'm not convinced that it will be able to motivate people to buy a Switch for it.

Guess we'll have to wait and see to find out, though I'd be curious to hear why you believe that the Labos will be able to sell Switches.

Evre bigger game effect in some degree of better HW sales, when people buying some console it doesnt mean they are buying it just for that one game, but in most cases some game is game that pushes people to buy some console in order to play that and other games.  Labo is aimed at kids/parents part of market that still isnt so present among current Switch owners. Also with curent 1H of year Labo is easily strongest Switch release for 1H, so Labo will definitely move some Switch units, real question is how much exactly, but April will probably be strongest month of 2018. until April (better than January, February and March).

Sure the holidays help a little, as well as the recent slim release in 2009. But the years hardly matter to the PS4, as it has peaked so late in its lifetime. And in fact the peak of PS4>PS3 peak thus I think it sensible that the PS4 should put up close to the same numbers. (which it might have with legs)

PS3 also peaked late in it's lifetime at it's fifth year with 14M units sold in 2011 but I'm not if PS4's peak will be this year ...

Before the slim model, PS3 hardware sales were rubber ... (FF XIII had everything going for it at the time while MHW is dealing with a system that is reaching it's saturation point at it's price point at $300)

We talking Japan here. PS3 peaked in 2009, only 3 years and a month after launch. PS4 either peaked last year (3 years and 10 months) or will this year. (4 years and 10 months)

And the sales aren't even close comparatively with quite meagre sales early on for PS4 and then peaking higher than PS3. I just think after a peak year higher than PS3 that it should be selling better.
