Forums - Politics Discussion - Delaware students can now choose their own race (Yes, RACE!) under new regulations.

This thread will be entertaining. I don't know who I agree with, but play on.

The idea of race is so overstated to begin with, why do we as humans need to cling to a box we check on a piece of paper? Amazing how you can put toddlers in a room and they'll play with each other without even once considering what their 'race' is. Put adults in the same room and it's a completely different story...

In school, it is relevant because there are differing performance levels among what we identify as "races" even when controlling for other factors such as poverty and so on.  If we are to address this performance gap, then it is necessary to have data to work with.  Even if race maybe isn't the most accurate term.

A bit confused? Usually in New York and in New Jersey they give a paper during the school year that you fill out your race, gender, ethnicity etc.

I identify as a God. My name is Erebus. Provide me a tropical island with a mansion with access to the internet, worshipers on hallucinogens, a harem of beautiful women aged 25 to 35 from Australia, Sweden, Italy, Ukraine and enough riches so I'm able to live a lifestyle that conforms with my identity. If you don't comply, you're guilty of denying my existence and you'll go to jail for hate crimes. 🙏

Can I identify as a black attack helecopter? I mean I was born that way... xd

You can if you want to spend your life in prison. So you better identify as white attack helicopter.

'Race', just like any form of subdivision of living creatures, is a human construction. There's a scientific consensus that all humans that aren't extinct belong to the same species and the same race.

You're kidding right? There's pretty clear biological evidence of multiple human races. Don't want to call them races? Fine, come up with another word. The fact remains that there are biological differences between different groups of people though.

The biological differences aren't big enough to consider them different races.

There are also biological differences between you and me.

As Flilix said, there are biological differences between individual humans too, even siblings. So, do siblings count as different races?

It's possible. A few generations back in my family there was a caucasian brother and a black sister. Technically they were only half siblings, but they were still siblings nonetheless.

And of course there are biological differences between individual people, we're not all clones! But there are still clear differences in the genes related to skin pigmentation and skeletal structure between different groups of people. There's other differences too, but those ones are the most recognisable.

So, what is your argument supposed to be then? There are differences between groups, yes. But what is that supposed to insinuate?

Saying something along the lines of "because siblings don't count as races therefore races don't exist" is absurd.

I'm not insinuating anything. I'm stating that different groups of people have different racial characteristics.

We're such mixed-race these days that there is not even such thing as a pure race anymore, so we can't even properly group people into specific races.
