Forums - Gaming Discussion - >90 METACRITIC: The Nintendo Switch has more Games than PS4 and XB1 together (First Year)

I think it is important to point out that this is solely due to technology.
Nintendo didn't venture into new technology like the other two did. Quite respectable result for PS4 in my opinion.

Switch has a good launch

A lot of ports, but still good games

Getting to play those ports on the go really does make some of them better and more enjoyable experiences in my opinion though, perhaps it's just the way my life is now, but I can't commit hours to sitting in front of a TV for many games, the Switch and its rest mode makes games so much more accessible.

Also in terms of ports on the Switch.

Bayonetta 2 is sold out on Amazon.co.uk , both special and regular version of it, and it's already charting in the charts on the eshop even before it has launched. More people getting to enjoy Platinum's fine work.

Really? It’s better to play on a small screen with a controller with small buttons? I understand your point about committing hours in front of a TV but I’d rather commit hours in front a TV than commit hours in front of a small screen in small bursts.

Because a race isn't a race when one person starts 4 miles ahead.

And yet people always directly compare PS3 lifetime sales to XB360 lifetime sales.

Though I enjoy the Switch, this list is BS since most people do not review Xbox One copies of a game. There are currently 13 Xbox one titles over 90% (With 5 or more reviews). There are currently 19 on PS4. Finally there are 7 on Switch.

We are talking 1st year here though?

Major games like TLOU have been released on the PS3 until its death (God of War and Gran Turismo too IIRC). The Wii U has been completely abandoned for years before the release of the Switch.

How surprising that one of the console had a more loaded first year when the company focused development on it for years, compared to another company who took care of its predecessor until the end (and same thing for third party). It's almost like if different strategies gave different results, guys!

Any other thread about "let's compare statistics while completely ignoring the context and strategies leading to these statistics"?

Most unbiased and informitive post that has been made in this thread.

And also I forgot all the awesome support the the Vita got from Sony after 2013, can someone remind me?

2014 had a bunch of stuff. Too lazy to list the games.

Oh, nope. Switch is kicking ass. On a side note, Xbox One did get Raymon Legends which was 92%

I'd wager if you looked at my PS4 playtime something like Rocket League would have maybe 5 hours at most playtime.... the switch version currently heading over the 65 hour mark after double dipping on it, sure the game takes one of the biggest hits in dynamic resolutions ever but still just that ability to take it out while I'm waiting somewhere, hop online, play a 5 min match and pop it back in the bag again is just fantastic for me, if I do power up the PS4 it's going to be for a longer more substantial game, something like rocket league especially imo is just the perfect fit on Switch.

As for small screen and small buttons... my screen setup is either 2x24in PC monitors, 42" TV, 102inch (max space on my wall) Projector and the Switches screen, the thing is... I tend to sit further away from the 42" than I do hold the Switch in my hands, perspective is a thing, I wouldn't enjoy a portable with a 42" screen because I'm not MC Hammer and couldn't pocket it. As for the buttons...

What?

edit - Also 300 hours of Breath of the Wild happened on the machine... which was mostly powered by the game being cut into 120 minidungeons, 900 collectibles, and 4 main story plot dungeons and storylines. The game was just cut up into great 5 minute segments much like the Moons of Mario being more frequent and less substantial than the Stars of Mario 64 but again, designed around pick up, play a bit, pocket it.

So Rocket League doesn’t need good internet to play online? I would have thought that using free wifi around town to play an online game would be very unenjoyable. I’m curious about that.

But for me, playing a game for a few minutes is the equivalent of ordering fries and eating 1 every hour - quite unfulfilling compared to eating the lot / playing for at least 1 hour. But I guess it depends on your lifestyle. Personally, if I have 5 minutes to waste, I just browse the net.

Eat little and often is what doctors recommend as the way to eat  :D

And my Switch is just tethered to my phone all the time if I'm away from home, worked perfectly both here at home and roaming, I played a load of Splatoon2 (and Doom but stopped after some shoulder surfers were giving me a dirty look) while waiting for a flight in Luton Airport.

Agree completely btw, the Switch and your enjoyment of it very much depends on your lifestyle, if you bought that system as a replacement for a home console (X1/PS4) you basically are getting a machine that plays their games but either half framerate or resolution and it would be really a poor way to play, but if you even once reach over, take it outta the dock and bring it to the bog while playing games it becomes clear where the real value of the system is from.

Not only resolution/frames hit too.... Doom cost 60e on Switch for objectively an inferior console port of the game, you can get the 1080p/60 version on the PS4 for around a tenner... if you are looking for a home console the Switch is costly to buy and even more costly to feed with games, I've told a mate of mine who just plays at the TV not to get the system because he'd hate it, but also a few other people I know I recommended it that they'd love it, and they've all moved to it as their primary system for games.
