Do I think it should be banned? No.

But if I had my own Formula 1/Dart tournament, would I hire grid girls/walk-on girls/whatever? No. Just seems tacky and... purposeless.

As far as I can tell, this were decisions made by the organisation itself, which is completely their choice. It even says it was after discussion with broadcasters. Should they be forced to include them? :-|

The decisions were made after backlash and complaints. People high in F1 have even spoke against this and for the pandering not to take place, Women included.

But if they disagree, and the backlash didn't affect them financially, why would they react? Either this has to be hurting their viewership, or sponsors not wanting to work or broadcasters, or they agree and that's why they're doing it...

They owners have all the bargaining chips... If someone tells me to stop writing on VGC, but they don't give me any reason for why that I agree with, and they don't give me any consequences if I don't listen to them, then I won't give a shit... Same thing with Formula 1. Either it's hurting them financially (in which case a large enough part of their viewerbase or sponsors and collaborators clearly finds it important), or they agree ideologically. What other reason would there be?

If the backlash against their decision to remove Grid girls/walk-in girls hurts viewership more than keeping them, then they can just revert back. Again, it's the owners that have all the power here, unless a law is passed. Which it hasn't.

Feminists my ass. Feminists can't force F1 or some dart tournament to change their policies, unless they have a financial bargaining chip (in which case a large enough amount of people agree, and at that point, you are just listening to fans, not being pushed around by feminists).

It's the owners deciding not to keep this position. No one else can make that decision.

Honestly for me, I find them a bit distasteful as they don't anything to the sport and are just there for sex appeal. I can speak for darts, and tbh hadn't actually noticed them in F1 (mainly as I only tune in as the race starts) but in my dad's favourite sport Speedway, any televised race has 4 girls pimped out in flashy strips with excessive makeup and attention on their features. It just always felt cheesy.

The F1 idea of kids as mascots feels more in tune with sporting development so I'd prefer to see that.

Support I guess, I get why the respective companies want to change their look with a more family friendly approach, but just firing them all is excessive. Why not just tone down their wardrobe to a little more PG rather than getting rid of them to appease the easily offended? Personally I just see it as the big wigs wanting to cut costs and deepen their own pockets with that sudden decision...

I think people misunderstand the whole notion behind this. Its not about taking away the freedom of the girls, its about encouraging a fairer culture/code of conduct/representation in the sports. A guy couldn't just decide to performs these roles because there is no openning for them.

Its about the culture you want the sport to represent and encourage that is far bigger and generational then the jobs they loose, but also less a tangible subject.

Hm...

I wonder how long we'll have to wait until women get prohibited from becoming pregnant because men cannot perform that role.

EDIT: Yes, that's a broader topic than sports, but still...

I must have been unclear with my point. This isn't about freedom as so many of you are making it out to be. Men don't have the freedom to do this but no one cares about that... Its about objectification of woman in society and it being shoehorned into huge, family friendlhy sport events and probergating a culture of continued objectification.

I've seen a fair bit of talk about the grid girls lately. I honestly couldn't care less. They add absolutely nothing to the sport and are just a waste of money. In fact if it means lower ticket prices, since they've now got less people to pay, then I'm all for it! It probably just means less expenditure, and thus more profit, for the organisers though. Would be nice if somebody sometime passed savings on to us consumers.

As for the poll, I choose indifferent. Banning them from employing people in what is a perfectly legal job seems stupid. But I don't want them either, for financial reasons.

In Australia they are going to use Grid Kids, kind of like they got the ball boys at the tennis. I hope they pay them something and not just use volunteers

I'm shocked that Bernie is against it, Seen here with his latest wife and daughters

It's just the puritanical times we're in (used to be from the hard right people but the only difference is now it's coming mainly from the hard left) - everything is offensive.

Stuff like this frustrates me to no end, but if I can grasp for one minor positive from these sorts of things it's that it'll only alienate more and more people from said group that pushes for them as their moves get increasingly ridiculous, to the point where they'll eventually be dwindled down to the status of an obscure almost non-entity cult with only a few fringe loonies. American/Western Third Wave Feminism is certainly going down that path from my perspective.

I just see it as more amusing at this point. I mean, don't these feminists realize that all they're really achieving is putting fellow women out of a job? Guys have an unlimited amount of sources if they want to ogle scantily clad women anyway whether in real life or online..

Feminists are a plague. They fight for ''women'' yet cost women their jobs. Seems counter-productive.

What feminists own Formula 1 or a dart tournament?

Exactly how can feminists force those owners to stop them from conducting business as they want to? They can't. Simple as that. I've already explained this in another post, but unless there's a financial argument (in which case you can hardly blame "feminism", you can't force neither advertisers nor viewers to accept their policies) or the owners themselves agreed with the viewpoint and made the call themselves, there's no way this would happen.
