Forums - Sales Discussion - UK: Shadow of the Colossus PS4 launch week sales are 73% greater than the PS2 version

‘Shadow of the Colossus’ remastered for PS4 debuts at No1 pushing ‘Monster Hunter: World’ down to No3. The original PS2 title also debuted at No1, back in W7 2006, however launch week sales of the new PS4 version are 73% greater than that of its predecessor. It is the 8th different Sony-format exclusive to reach No1 so far this year.

SOTC (PS4) < 50k

TLG was estimated at below 29k, and that was higher than SOTC PS2, so SOTC <29k. Then, SOTC PS4 = 1.73*SOTC PS2, or SOTC PS4 < 50k.

Wasn't the original debut terrible? Good job nonetheless

It was released when people had shifted their minds towards PS3/360 so, it was inevitably swallowed whole. I bought it though, and loved it. I still own it and have no need to buy a shinier, prettier version so I won't get it again.

I think the point was touting it was "73% higher" is meaningless when the sales you're comparing it to weren't impressive to start. It might have done much better in other regions, though. SotC has always been a highly-regarded but niche game.

That's a good first week for Shadow of the Colossus!

If VgChartz is to be believed, SotC only shifted 30k copies lifetime on ps2 in Europe

1.14m total, yet Europe hated it?

73% higher on practically nothing is indeed not impressive. At least it tops the charts.

Great debut for this remaster.. Should do over 2m lifetime WW. Top 4 all ps4. Wow.

Yeah, I highly doubt that it only sold 30k lifetime in Europe. Anyway, I'm sure someone on GAF/Era has the numbers for SotC, so we'll probably know precise figures soon enough.

BTW don't forget digital sales which will no doubt be a decent %. And digital sales are pure profit to Sony. This remake was a very good choice.
