Either 2020 or 2021 ...

Xbox 360 lasted for 8 years so we can expect the PS4 to stay for roughly the same amount of time before it gets replaced ...

Not that I disagree with you, but Xbox 360 lifespan was the exception, not the rule. Due to the recession in 2009-2010 it's life was prolonged, or else we would've seen a successor in ~2011.

No, its life was prolonged due to Kinect giving it a huge boost and causing it to peak in 2010/2011.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I think even sony must be confused with the success of PS4 which might have thrown off their internal estimate of a new console by 2019, Sony must have expected Ps4 Pro to take off so that they can kill off the base PS4, but that didnt happen, So i think before Ps5 announcement, we will hear the announcement of Base Ps4 ceasing production and PS4 Pro taking its place which will be around 2019.

So Sony could delay PS5 to improve it further, which will also give developers some more time to work on end gen games port for the launch, also PSvr2 (if thats a thing) will greatly benefit from concurrent development, My bet is Fall 2020

Not really, PS3 lasted pretty similarly at 7 years ...

Recession had next to no appreciable effect either since last generation was the biggest for console gaming ...

Well, doesn't this just prove my point even more? It's not as if the PS3 was unaffected by it.

And if you're point is right, why was ps2 replaced in six years when it doing amazing numbers?

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

I voted for Nov 2020. But it could also be 2021 because they need good launch game to justify it. PS4P dynamic 4K will easily last another 2-3yrs

Unless you know for a fact that the PS5 will be backwards compatible with PS4 games, you're missing out on one hell of a console.

Strong rumors suggest AMD arch meaning it will play all ps4 games. but we shall see.

Going by history, backwards compatibility is not a primary prerogative of Sony's. And going by current trends of PS4 sales, why would Sony want to butcher PS4 hardware sales by allowing backwards compatibility with the PS5?

PS5 is not going to launch in a non-holiday month. Mark my words.

EVEN fall 2018 is more likier than spring 2019.

The ignoratio elenchi fallacy is really getting annoying on these boards ... (How about you guys actually start showing how the opposition's argument will further yours ? That shouldn't be too hard from now on, right ?)

What you say about PS2 doing "amazing" numbers isn't true either considering the system peaked in it's second year. PS3 replaced PS2 earlier because the latter was reaching a plateau in it's main market and had hardly any further room for growth ... (just before the launch of the PS3, PS2 was selling for $129)

The reason I think mid 2019 is to get the jump on MS. MS released their mid gen console a year after Sony so it's less likely Sony will get a huge backlash from those who only just recently bought a Pro. MS would have to wait a little longer in order to make sure they didn't have a backlash. Pro wasn't promoted heavily whilst the XB1X was, which makes it even harder for MS to try and release alongside Sony if Sony decide to release mid 2019. This would give Sony at least 6 months head start in building a userbase for the PS5, unless MS take that big risk. Throw in BC and as far as I'm concerned it's game over.
