Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo: Next announcement for Nintendo Switch Online will be worth the wait

Mario Maker is a bigger online game than Smash Bros. Mario Maker lives off of online functionality; Smash (at least on Wii U) is perfectly playable and enjoyable without having to go online. Splatoon is the same, except that already exists. Some third party suggestions would be Fortnite and Overwatch; these would be great additions to their online service as Fortnite is free (and people want it) and these cartoony styled games resonate with the Nintendo audience. The only issue may be the genre of Overwatch, since FPS games don't have a good sales history on Nintendo systems. DOOM hasn't seemed to set any records which is pretty worrying, but the game itself isn't as huge as the former two mentioned and it's hyper-realistic graphics aren't really something that has been prevalent on Nintendo systems.

Smash is obviously going to come (as a port IMO- if not a new game will be much later and be developed by someone else) but let's seriously not pinpoint when it will be like people are suggesting here. Nintendo will reveal Smash in what form they want when they want. People keep predicting Smash will show up at the next big thing that they plan and it always turns out to be wrong.

Nothing will make it appealing to me if it costs money. They could basically give away another Switch as a gift for signing up and I still wouldn't care. I'm done paying for the privilege of playing online. That goes for Xbox and PS4 as well.

So you wouldn't pay $20 for a year Nintendo Online, if you get a $300 Switch for free? That's just stubborn.

If the whole package is worth it, I don't mind if some components of it are "overpriced", as long as the rest outweights that.
