Forums - Movies & TV - Why I hate TV series

In the last few years, there was a lot of hype all around TV series or Netflix series. All the time people would recommend me some show that I just had to watch. But I always was more of a movie-person. And I will tell you why. There was this series I was interested in called Black Sails. I love Pirates in general, I love Pirates of the Caribbean, so I decided to finally watch it. And while I like the setting and all it's just so damn boring. Seriously, all they do is talk talk and talk. There are episodes where literally nothing happens at all. All the characters just talk about what they want to do or what they have done in the past or this and that. Just yesterday I watched 4 episodes of season 2 and almost nothing happened!

I experienced that in a lot of other series too. They always feel so damn stretched. Seriously, you could fit the story of a lot of TV series in just one movie if you cut out all the useless talk. I have the same feeling with Black Sails. I really like the idea of a prequel to Treasure Island, but you could just do that in one movie instead of a series with 4 fucking seasons!

Of course there are some exceptions from this like Breaking Bad. I sure loved that show, but almost no other series is on that level. In most cases there is just too much talking and too little action. I mean, who has the time to watch all that meaningless crap? If you want to tell a story, do it within a movie. 2 hours is more than enough to tell just about any story you want to. The only TV series I really enjoy are those where every episode is enjoyable themselves. Like Family Guy, South Park or How I met your Mother. I love those shows, but I can just watch any episode without knowing anything about past episodes and have fun with it.

Yeah, so long story short: Movies > TV series. Now please someone tell me that Black Sails gets better with Season 3. xP

Have you tried Game Of Thrones? It keeps things rolling forward in every episode, even though there is talking as well.

I hate TV series because they're overhyped. I am just so tired of being disappointed by every recommendation.

Can't really relate with your expereince, I liked Black Sails quite a bit...then again, I don't have problem with people talking - Mad Men is one of my all time favourites, and all they do is pretty much talk.

Then again, you have Boring Dead, they talk a lot and when they do, it is indeed mostly boring as hell.

Neither TV series or movies really interest me. I sit through them because the people around me seem to like them, but I can't remember the last time I've ever really been engrossed in a film/tv show.

Maybe try more episodic tv series. I wish more would do it these days. It's nice sometimes to just sit down and watch a contained story.

I'm interested in American Gods, it's based on something by Neil Gaiman so you know it's good. But it's on Amazon, as a series, I don't have that and I don't watch series. The don't interest me and I just don't watch them.

I tried watching Game of Thrones once. My friends told me it had sex and dragons in it. There was a weird tacked on sex scene near the start, no dragons and 50 minutes of a political thriller in fantasy world. Bored me to no ends.

I only really way a few comedy series, BBC documentaries and Grand Designs nowadays, or silly things like Take Me Out or First Dates. Much like you, series where a single episode can carry itself.

Hmm, pie.

Cool story.

I hate movies because they expect me to sit still of 90 minutes and then expect me to pay attention the whole time.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

That's the problem with TV serieses in general. Some people like it and some don't. Plot fillers, unfortunately, are necessary. Now good TV series has its fillers tightly interconnected with the main plot and you can't really skip them. In the bad ones, you might as well skip 80% or even whole episodes without losing anything.

I like the TV Series, Movies, and Games that I watch. I think there is content out their for everyone, but most of the content is not interesting to most people. That is what I think is great about TV now days. Most people have a handful of series that they absolutely love, and a lot gripe about all the garbage. In reality, they have plenty to fill the time they should be alloting for TV, and their must watch shows are someone elses garbage.

My current Shows are, RAW, Smackdown, The Black List, Game of Thrones, Westworld, Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, South Park, Family Guy, Building Giants, Jay Leno's Garage, The Voice, I Am Jazz, and The Fosters. I enjoy every one of them, and I am happy with that.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
