Combined handheld/console interest. A hybrid turned out to be a really good idea. Hopefully Sony and Microsoft follow suit again like they did with Move and Kinect in Gen 7.

You're either joking or naive. A hybrid Playstation/Xbox is completely unrealistic, for obvious reasons.

I don't see why a digital-only PS4 Go wouldn't be impossible in a year or two. It only needs to be as strong as a standard PS4.

Port-ability. ;)

Seriously though, Switch is more of a powerful handheld with additional functionality that makes it home console as well (Nintendo did a great job marketing it other way around, so they can sell games for $60 instead of $40) - so really there's no mystery why it's selling as good as it does.

As much as I'm not too keen on actual execution, I think it's very good concept for people who care about portability.

Marketing does make a differnce, but I doubt its actually as big as many people think.

Great products sell themselves.
The fact that Nintendo came out swinning and gave people what they wanted from Mario & Zelda games, is what gave it such a strong start. In that sense I hardly think Marketing mattered at all, compaired (to just doing decent hardware + strong 1st party lineup early).

It's secret.

True, but the marketing was very different and more active this time around. I know it's fully anecdotal, but people actually now about it on the outside. Totally reverse from the WiiU. The point I want to make is the power of marketing should not be underestimated.
