Forums - Nintendo Discussion - A reminder of how horrible the ads from Wii U was...

the Wii U was a necessary evil. it will be remembered for being terrible for all eternity, but it was a necessary step before we got to the Switch

They said the same thing about Dreamcast when it was first buried. Ten years later, it was a different story. I'd put money on it happening with Wii U as well.

Based on these ads, the Wii-U sold more than it deserved to. I was rooting for that kid to hook up with his older brother's girl friend, but it went nowhere.

That's only for kids who buy a Genesis

Scott Moffit was the worst. So glad he was replaced by a team of people rather than just one person. It shows in Switch ads that feel more like something Sony would make and this time to copy the edgier console markers ads isn't cringe inducing (aka Play it Loud trying to 1up SEGA and failing badly)

Yeah, I’m not convinced that Nintendo has improved quite as much as people say, but the one thing they did a complete 180 on is their advertising. Those ads made me feel awkward even having a 3ds out in public sometimes. And that was a completely different system. Though now that Nintendo’s image has changed so much, I feel better about bringing my 3ds and Switch places.

Yoshi, I am so sorry, but you did not help.

Nintendo fired their ad agency from the Wii days and hired amateurs for the Wii U ads. And it shows.

I actually like that commercial and I think it would have been really successful if the system had been more successful. That commercial really sounds like something you'd hear on a nice relaxing commercial break while watching  cartoons at 10am on saturday. It's got that kind of catchy vibe.

By porting everything to Switch Nintendo ensured the Wii U will always be worthless.

You should see the Gamecube era ads the Mario Sunshine ad still ranks today as one of Nintendo's worse ads.
